Moore states that the storm of criticism which he and Gebbie expected did not materialize, which he attributes in part to his design of Lost Girls as a "benign" form of pornography (he cites "people like Angela Carter who, in her book The Sadeian Women... admitted... the possibility [of] a form of pornography that was benign, that was imaginative, was beautiful, and which didn’t have the problems that she saw in a lot of other pornography"[3] as inspirations for the work). He has also said that his own description of Lost Girls as "pornography"[4] has "wrong-footed a lot of... people."[3] Moore speculates that "if we’d have come out and said, 'well, this is a work of art,' they would have probably all said, 'no it's not, it's pornography.' So because we're saying, 'this is pornography,' they're saying, 'no it's not, it's art,' and people don't realise quite what they've said."[3]
The teacher that got fired for writing porn. Using a pseudonym. Keeping it as detached from her job as possible, and she wouldn't have been found out if some crazy parent hadn't been such a snoop.
The idea of everyone having to live through all their sufferings all over again is very, very weighty to me, considering many of the things that have happened in the world...
Maybe the suffering will stop; maybe each iteration of the universe is a little different but universes grow vastly different with time, kind of like in Homestuck, striving towards the perfect, stable utopia? It is a bit of a crazy idea.
So each iteration of the universe is a bit better? That seems...acceptable. Although you can't prove it, natch.
Maybe "what you want" really means "what the chemicals in your brain dictate that you would do?" >;]
OH GOD I CAN SEE FOREVER
is that what you expect me to do?
Most things are "just chemicals" if you boil them down to their most basic form. Hell, you could go simpler and say "just molecules".
I don't get why this is an okay thing to pull out in philosophy. No one ever describes music as "just a series of tones", even if that's basically what it is. No one ever describes art as "just a series of colors" even though that is basically what it is.
You can make anything sound stupid if you boil it down as far as it'll go. Try it with things in your daily life sometime.
Watching the Chick's review of Bratz, and good Christ...it's like someone saw Clueless and Friendship is Magic, and completely missed the point of both. I would not be surprised if Lauren Faust saw this crap and said "I MUST DO SOMETHING."
But Lazuliiiiiiii, everything *is* silly, when you realize it is made smaller things that are a tad simpler than we might imagine, even though these smaller components are intricate and complex. :D Life *is* silly, and so is music, and so is the internet, if these things are viewed a certain way!!
I didn't say silly, I said stupid. There's a marked difference.

That's not "philosophy," it's severe reductionism.
Also, looking at the credits to Bratz...wow, how did Avi freaking Arad get roped into this? And most of the crew that worked on it are TV people. Shocker. :P It's a crapshoot; sometimes it works incredibly well (The Wrath of Khan was produced by Paramount Television to save money), but other times, it's just cynical cost-cutting.

In principle, I am anti-censorship but of course this allows people to create all sorts of horrible things...well, whatareyagonnado
Some of my favorite books would be basically impossible in a heavily-prudish society, so I can't really go prude myself, ya see...

Oh yeah? Not if my free will has anything to say about that!
I don't actually find it any more frightening than the reverse, for some reason.

i never understood what the point was of saying things like "oh, emotions are just pituitary gland juice, lulz"
the origin of a thing doesn't make said thing any less profound, or anything
wow, i worded that very poorly. oh well.
