    Good night Imi.

I too worry that my lack of argumentative skills limits my skills as a moderator. It doesn't help that I actively avoided them at one time, either.
  • TBH I think you're a great mod, AU. You're not... domineering like some of the ones I've encountered are.

    What Tre said.

I like you guys.  You're fair and you're approachable.

Well, you know I like you, but as mods, I mean.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    ...well, thanks.

i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind

i think you guys are the good kind of mod and not the bad kind

the bad kind is EVIL INCARNATE, probably

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    I like you...not as a mod.

Good God, please don't ask me to explain that remark.

Honestly, when it comes to mod-ing, I worry less about my lack of argumentative skills and more about not quite knowing when to step in or how to handle a situation.

Sometimes I feel like I do too little. This place seems to have relatively little in the way of conflict, which often makes me worry it's a "hugbox".
  • i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind
What would hugbox mean in this context?

A "hugbox" is a place that is, to me, accepting to a fault. Rarely is anything challenged, even if it is negative, and that sort of place is bound to collapse on itself.

"A hugbox is a derogatory term for an environment, usually on the internet, in which a group with similar interests gathers to discuss topics in what they intend to be a safe, comforting, and confrontation-free environment.

What they intend to be a "safe space" almost always turns into a circle-jerk of forced consensus and ends with every member repeatedly expressing the exact same opinion to each other, no matter the topic. Since the community is founded on unconditional love and support no matter how much of a tool a person is, these communities tend to attract tools and rational and useful advice is usually a rarity."

I don't think we're like that though, we're all just... nice to each other.

This place actually has given me useful advice and stuff so we aren't a hugbox. We definitely are pretty safe, comforting and confrontation-free, but that's because none of us have any particular sense of vitriol or anything, I guess. Well, some of us might, but I don't think it's a huge problem or anything.
  • i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind
Well, I don't think HH is a hugbox if we go by either of those definitions.
  • doublepost.

also I have been to exactly one hugbox by that definition. It is neither here nor the TVTropes forums.

  • This place is kinda huggy, but not really boxy.

...The irony of seeking reassurance that we're not a hugbox is not lost on me.

    But who cares, obsession time:

I was always disappointed that the 2009 logo (right) was as short-lived as it was. It seemed like a solid improvement on the 2003 logo (left), and the y-as-ponytail was clever, but...it had the misfortune of being associated with G3.5, which, well...

...Yeah. As much as I hate the tendency of bronies to blindly bash previous generations of MLP, there is absolutely nothing appealing about that style, to me. It seems like a misguided attempt to overload them with generic cuteness while at the same time sacrificing much of their horse-like qualities.

Maybe I'm just an odd one, but I think this might be one of Skrillex's best songs. I like how it isn't all wubs and fax machine noises (not that those aren't fun, but it's nice to be different sometimes).

Long Drive is pretty good too.

^^They remind me of the Pony Puff Princesses from Dexter's Laboratory, except less cute to me.

Skrillex's big strength is his knack for good melodies and his sense of timing, so yeah, that song is great.

    Long Drive that is.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
CA: It took a little longer than it should have for me to realize that the text was your post and not a quote from Brand New.

Also, sorry for not commenting on the discussion earlier. I wasn't sure what to say that hadn't already been said.

"Spacey is so amazing, I should give him all my money"

but maybe that goes without saying???

The three question marks indicate a wish for my post to appear witty, as opposed to incredibly egowhatever, which is a word i just made up, but I'm sure it has something to do with an ego, because the name and also it sounds somehow topical, but maybe I'm just sleep deprived.

Whoops. This happening two nights in a row is a bit awkward. I must be feeling really out of it lately. I should probably try to cut down on the nervous apologies.

Funny, now I'm listening to the most fax-machiney of his songs (possibly the most fax-machiney song ever).

It's weird how we torture our ears like this.
  • Boy, that's nothing.

this song sounds like a printer.

    Because it's a printer.

...why did you take a picture of that phone, CA? The last one?
  • Is it like supposed to have become a scorpion or a crab? Whatever.

I do like the song though.

Oh, you even had an avatar of a Pink Princess phone on TVT. How did I forget that you liked phones?

Pink Princess? As in Ace Attorney Pink Princess? If this is correct, I'm assuming it's a picture from the game or official art.

    Curses. Foiled again.

Though on that subject, it wouldn't exactly be surprising if Maya ever had a Pink Princess phone.

back around February I was obsessed with the first game in that series

See, when I think of a telephone, I think of one of these, because that was the only type of phone they had at my elementary school.

  • I'll get myself a rotary dial phone someday.

And I like the dubstep in Raise Your Weapon, for some weird reason. -waits to be shot-
  • (*Raises Weapon*)

    :P

IMO it doesn't really do the song justice. It's like so POWERFUL, and then... It'd be better if it was in another song.

@Spacey: My high school had big elaborate desk phones like that, but my middle and elementary schools just had the more basic Western Electric 2554.

(I say "Western Electric" because they made it first; odds are the phones in my schools were actually 1990s knockoffs)
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
The Western Electric Model 500 is rather cool-looking to me...the numbers and letters on the dial look to be patterned after the Western Electric logo (which I think I've seen on many old theatrical cartoons).

I agree with you, CA, it does kind of look like the "iconic" telephone in film and TV. Now that I look at it closely, I really like the lettering for some reason.
