Some electronic music producers reject the idea of art music and continue to believe they are rejecting all established musical tradition. Aaron Funk’s music is a blend of both of these ideas. Although he is aware of his place in history, Aaron Funk is as likely to poke fun at any established tradition as he is to embrace its artistic æsthetic. In his early work he was more likely to mock tradition, but as his work matures there seems to be a more sophisticated and informed use of historical narrative. Evidence of this can be seen in his treatment of Bartók samples in his Hungarian-themed album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született. From their relationship to dance, artistic æsthetics and direct quotation, the æsthetic of modern music and underground electronic music have many points of contact.
