Same here. There's that A/T thread about traffic engineering, for one, and they have a pretty extensive trans* megathread as well. Those two things alone would probably be worth it, for me.

Well, I've seen the community, lurked around, and I've found it to have quality. Dunno if it's the mods or the price tag or whatever, and I don't really care either way.

Also I would argue that their strict moderation does much more to improve the quality of the site than the registration fee does. Even obnoxious idiots can pay $10 for something, after all.

My main concern about joining SA isn't the money, but the fact that I would have to drastically change my posting style to be accepted there. The kind of silly bullshit we cherish here isn't tolerated there, and while I think I could do it, it would certainly take some getting used to.

I saw a goon parading around how awesome the site was on OddFuture Talk once. I just think that kind of "site pride" is a tad silly, especially when it's so misplaced. Even though I used to be the same way for TVTropes.

I dunno. I enjoy the forums I use (This place, TVTropes, OddFuture Talk, and [adult swim]'s Toonami board) to some extent, but the last of those is the only one I'd even sort of say I'm proud of. Even then, only because that's a meeting base for the whole #Toonami movement, which I'm fairly into.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I'd fit in the SA community very well. I'm not quite sure how to explain why, but I guess part of it is I like the fact that we're a smaller community with a more easygoing posting style. So I guess I kind of agree with CA and Justice here.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to post in a place that charges money for posting and is well known for having something of an attitude problem, if it means that one slip of the tongue will make me a pariah. :P
For what it's worth, I'm not too hot on gated communities or HOAs in the real world for much the same reason. I live in one of the older parts of Lake Ridge that doesn't have HOA covenants, thankfully.

I had assumed that the seller included "man cave bar room" just so it would come up when people searched for those terms. It did strike me as a bit strange, though.
