The sign on the left is completely unrealistic, so it won't bother you. The sign on the right, however, is much closer to realistic, but just "off" enough that you'll find yourself bugged by the fact that it's not quite right.
...Could someone who "gets" uncanny valley tell me if that's a decent explanation? I understand the concept, er, conceptually, but I don't really experience it myself.
This is a decent explanation of "the uncanny", but not the uncanny valley, which is more specific. The uncanny is that which looks familiar, but is just a tiny bit off, and is consequently unsettling. The uncanny valley is something that looks human, but isn't quite. It works as an analogy, though.
Or, I assume it does, although to me the sign on the right looks innocuous because Highway Gothic already looks sufficiently different from Transport that the former merely registers as "foreign road sign" to me (while the sign on the left still looks too silly to be uncanny).

Would anypony be offended if I make Luna claim she suffers from Asperger's? She doesn't, and one or more of the characters will pick up on the fact that she just thinks she suffers from Asperger's the same way many self-diagnosed internet ponies do. But I'm not sure if that's offensive or a sore topic with real Asperger suffering ponies.

I don't have Asperger's but FWIW, I think that's the kind of joke where you just go for it if you're comfortable making it and apologize afterwards if somebody takes offence. You know that it's going to be offensive to some people, like any other medical disorder-related joke.

Fair enough. I just figured my audience is basically HERE and this joke had a slightly higher chance of offending someone. Not that I think using rampant drug and alcohol abuse as a punchline isn't potentially offensive.
I'll need to find time to write more of these. I basically have three stories swirling around my head at the moment...
In this phrase, civil instead follows definition 2, "of the commonwealth or the state", as a civil war refers to a war in which a nation, state, province, etc. goes to war with itself.
