What I'm trying to do now is download a service that can download videos from Justin.tv archives. My main goal in all of this is to watch a stream of Toonami's re-debut. I had planned to watch it in realtime but that's just not going to work, so I'm hoping that I can at least watch it a few days later by downloading it.
This thing (Videograbber) is downloading (or rather, its installer is), just doing so, very, very, very, very slowly.
Yep, you can rig up an antenna out of a pringles can. I made a wi-fi antenna out of a bud lite can so the guard shack could get some internet back when I was in the Corps. Worked pretty well, actually
Interesting.
Now
related question, since we lack one and need one to do this. How much does a soldering (sp?)....tool, cost?
Lazuli: A soldering iron? You can get a cheap one at Walmart (or, at least, you used to be able to) for a few bucks. They're usually in the automotive section, near the fuses and light bulbs and such. If that doesn't work out, Radio Shack still sells them; I'd avoid Home Depot, since they charge too much.
Does anyone happen to know if using this thing to download an archive off of Justin.tv would work?
I mean, it'll take forever--I have dialup--but I just want to know if it'll work at all.

Cool. I'll bring it up to him.
He seems to kind of not want to do it now after he found out it wasn't something he could do in six seconds or less. I'm hoping I can convince him otherwise.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
It "boosts" the signal for the receiver. It can turn a weak signal into a usable one. This is supposing you have a neighbor who has an unsecured signal you can leech off of.

well, it's not so much "boosting" as it is capturing more signal. Think about it this way -- you're surrounded by butterflies, think how many you can catch with your bare hands and then how many you could catch with a giant net. In radio terms, this would be called "gain", I think

as a final note before my nightly slumber, I think that if I manage to rig a pringles can into a pseudo-router, I will take a black sharpie and write "the intertube" on it.

I can still smell the Duz. It's as strong as it was whenever it was manufactured in the, uh, 60's I think. The beer, though, I wonder if that's still good. Those cans are aluminum and airtight.

Someone needs to make a YouTube Poop that sentence-mixes the opening narration of The Legend of Korra.

Seems legit.
Anyway.

Apparently one is necessary for this.

Super Lazuli: http://dsc.discovery.com/gear-gadgets/boost-your-wifi-signal-using-only-a-beer-can.html
No soldering iron needed.
Um, rather stupid thing to say but
none of us drink, so....
we lack beer cans.
soda cans work too, no alcohol required!
However, if you have a leftover pringles can, and if it's foiled on the inside, just improvise that with those instructions.
wait, this seems to be a booster for an existing wi-fi signal, rather than a receiver.
Or is that what the cantenna is too?
I'm confused. COMPUTERS MAKE MY BRAIN GO OW
okay, I'll clarify
as far as I know
what we're trying to do, is get a wi-fi signal from the hospital across the street, as they have public wi-fi that we can use.
Our own network is blocked, but theirs isn't.
ah, cool.
The word "boost" confused me, I'm sorry. I suck at electronics.
or anything requiring hard knowledge, really.
I'll try to talk him into it.
If not, I'll be downloading Justin.tv archives I suppose.
Assuming I can get that to work.
with that I think I shall turn in
hopefully I'll have viable internet by tomorrow
later, all.
So anyway here's the time warp that I keep in the upper left hand corner of my living room, everything is unopened
I just realized my birthday is in less than an hour. Wow.
I'll be honest with you, I keep pronouncing it as "Rocks Ass".
And I keep pronouncing Axel as "Asshole".
That's one awkward relationship, I tell ya.
