And the frustrating thing is that they at least are capable of self-criticizing when it's important stuff
When it's "oh I think my teenage self was being thoughtlessly cruel with this behavior, I will change that behavior so I stop being thoughtlessly cruel" they can do that
But art criticism is just this weird realm of ossified consensus defining the contours of pockets of freeform subjectivity for them where changing never comes into it?
I think it kind of boils down to media criticism just not mattering nearly as much as questions of morality.
Also, I think it's OK to like things you liked as a child. But I do, so, obviously I would.
I also think though that more people should be willing to say that they liked something when they saw it when they were 11 or whatever and still like the memory of it but would probably not like it now. I think of a lot of things that way.
I'm tired so maybe I'm totally misreading your post.

It either leads to weird generation based self-flaggelation or being this guy
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I wish it didn't take multiple attempts for my laptop to reconnect to my wifi when I wake it from sleep mode
You know, after posting that, I realized that (some) video games would probably be the exception. Super Mario, Zelda, etc., that stuff holds up pretty well for its time.

Tune in tonight for the official countdown to Kiwi Farms making a thread about me and my fixation on little girls
so i got a passport application. it's four pages. one paragraph is the "PAPERWORK REDUCATION ACT STATEMENT", which gives a time estimate for how long this paperwork should take to fill out, and asks that I contact the department of state if I have comments on the estimate or ideas for reducing the time taken.
this is the most bureaucratic thing I have ever witnessed.
The process created by the Paperwork Reduction Act makes OIRA into a centralized clearinghouse for all government forms. Thus, it is able to assess the overall impact of the government bureaucracy on American citizens and businesses. This is done in an annual document called the Information Collection Budget of the United States Government. The 2009 Collection Budget reported that the Federal Government generated 9.71 billion hours of mandatory paperwork burden
passport applications require a record of citizenship and an ID. the form suggests using your passport to prove your citizenship, and for ID, to use your passport

My boy Imipolex, it all started one day when my neighbor Ronald walked down the street and he said "How do you do?" and I replied that "I do fine".
But then a guy on a bicycle came on by and they all died. I needed to serve up vengeance, and by god was I unprepared.
So I printed up a poster for my Vengeance Association and put it on a bulletin board at the community center. Hundreds flocked to my abode and before I knew it I had a crew ready to go.
The showdown was tense, at the top of six the next morning. Casualties abound, but in the end the win was ours. The man on the bicycle was dead. By god, his reign of terror had ended at last!

Largely, I think people can be very aggro about trying to change others' opinions of various media properties, and I think that's horribly annoying.

But it won't settle because the ground is wet

Spending this much time on my smartphone can't be good for my hands or eyes
Half of what I wrote is half garbled bullshit that I vaguely remember from lectures. Go me.
Which leaves me time to do my project write up.
And gaming.
