So, it turns out that the John Hughes who did the amazing live-action 101 Dalmatians movie also did the first three Home Alone movies and every terrible teen comedy of the eighties that everyone but me likes.
You know, the interesting thing about Hot Topic in particular is that it has all but given up its original claim to fame of being the store for rebellious youth. These days it's more of an Internet and pop-culture oriented store, though it does still try to appeal somewhat to its original punk/emo subculture audience to a lesser extent.
The Bee Movie except every time they say bee it's replaced by a dramatic reading of Thus Sprach Zarathustra, except every time they say Zarathustra it's replaced by The Tigger Movie, except every time they say Tigger it's replaced by the full version of Bohemian Rhapsody, except every time they say I it's replaced by The Bee Movie except every time they say honey it's replaced by a 100% playthrough video of Baten Kaitos.

What gets me is that they justify themselves with this weird myopic reasoning. "It's my phone, and I'm willing to take the risk!"
Completely oblivious, perhaps willfully, to the fact that they are not the only ones who could potentially be harmed should their phone catch fire in a populated place.

LINDSAY: (reading) "You have a pulley 10.7 cm in diameter and with a mass of 1.6 kg. You get to wondering whether the pulley is uniform. That is, is the mass evenly distributed, or is it concentrated toward the center or the rim?"
LINDSAY: Why would I ever wonder about that?
LINDSAY: Is this what being a physicist is like? You just have random mechanical objects lying around, and you have nothing better to do than sit and ask pointless questions about their physical properties?
LINDSAY: And then before you know it you're thrown out of Kroger because you stood in the soup aisle for a full 3 hours trying to calculate whether the different cans of soup all have the same moment of inertia?
JIMMY: I think you're overthinking things.
LINDSAY: There's a textbook writer somewhere wondering about the mass distribution of pulleys and I'm the one overthinking things?!
I never did anything with this
I should rework it as the Sweets siblings talking to each other

I remember one time I wanted to see if IJBM had a character limit on signatures so I put the entire Declaration of Independence until Cygan asked me to change it

No matter what flaws it had, it made me happy at a rough time. So, I guess it is my Undertale or Steven Universe.

Just like how stuff like Hot Topic is part of the large capitalist system, rather than an actual rebellion against society. Same with rock and roll.
It is kind of surreal, the commodification of nonconformity.

I thought the resulting sugar rush was never going to end...
