the local accent's most distinguishing feature is apparently pronouncing the 'h' in 'wh' somehow

pretty much sounds the same as when i lived in boston to me (excluding hahvahd)

    Like this?

    Apologies for Family Guy clip
this is one of like 15 or so jokes from Family Guy that have held up.

    "Good....Good" is another.
"Thank you Ted, that was the joke" is another.

I never liked the cool whip clip because it irrationally bothers me. I think a fair part of that is not liking either of their voices.

You mean liking the same person doing two separate voices?

The term "black ice" is also used in Ohio, for what it's worth.

Re: Cool Hwip: I like the follow-up gag that comes later:

    Meg:  Brian, you're acting hweird.
Brian: Come on, that one doesn't even have an H in it!

it never even occurred to me that 'black ice' might be dialectal

i learned it from my parents, i think i assumed it was a technical term for some reason

Was Futurama "ask"/"ax" gag before or after that? Because that was pretty amusing.

i have a vaguely southern accent.  @buttercrispy makes fun of me for saying y'all
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    y'all is a good word
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I had an obviously southern lady in my store today. She said y'all about 290 times.
  • Y'alls not really that southern. I say y'all.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i started saying it for a time but somehow 'yas' felt more natural in my accent so i gravitated towards that instead
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
i'm nowhere near as southern as my extended family members who live in georgia and alabama, which is in part because i lived in the suburbs where all the transplants lived in NC, and in part because my parents, especially my dad, suppressed a lot of things like accent

Heh. Had the same thing happen to me last Christmas season when they played the Jars of Clay cover of "Christmastime Is Here", where you could only hear the vocals, bass and drums. Though I kinda liked it like that.

  • Mum seems to think that I am a fan of country/western music.

I possess exactly one album that could classed as "country"
  • What is it?

I have a soft spot for country buried deep, deep, deep within my very real contempt for 99% of the genre

Mainly because of the Dixie Chicks
