Not that it's his fault either, but I just don't like him.

My t-shirt is made of particles. But particles can be both particles and waves. My t-shirt is a wave. But I only have one t-shirt and there are waves on beaches all across the world. Does the entire population of waves represent my t-short? Maybe there is not one t-shirt in the world and they're all connected by spooky action at a distance. Etc etc. Only a physicist can fail to see the absurd situation he moves himself in with striking regularity and consider these situations actual problems that merit a 500p dissertation.

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Technically it came out in 1996, but more technically it belongs to every century, era, eon, whatever you want to say. It is the most formidable piece of literature ever written, and therefore I think it isn't violating your rules here to mention it. Actually, any system in which talking about Infinite Jest would violate its rules would be by definition a tyranny, since reading the novel, yes, is freedom itself. It is literary freedom. It is intellectual freedom. It is political freedom. It is even, I dare say, existential freedom.

I learned recently about a video-game term that teenagers these days throw around: "overpowered," or "OP" for short. If a character type in a competitive video game is inordinately more powerful than the others, then it is "overpowered"; the game as a result is deemed "unbalanced," and fans will complain on forums that the developers have delivered to them a swift "slap in the face." It's an interesting metaphor. Life, of course, is no game, and it's a truism that it isn't fair. But every once in a while we get a striking reminder of how unevenly Mother Nature distributes her gifts. Take the literary world for instance. By any measure, David Foster Wallace, the author of the acclaimed novel Infinite Jest, was overpowered. If he were a class in a role-playing game, then you wouldn't hear the end of the complaining. When it came to the writing of fiction, Wallace blew his competitors—historical and contemporary both—out of the water. To borrow another term from video gaming, it's fair to say that he "owned" them. When Infinite Jest hit book stores in February 1996, the title's two words were in the mouth of every serious reader in America; every living writer, however, was faced with a different pair of words: "Game Over."

It sounds like insincere bullshit genuinely meant to seem sincere. Like a poseur's idea of fandom rather than a parody of it.

OK, the second one is clearly a joke and reasonably funny, but the first one is approaching Poe's Law territory.

Greetings, I'm the Nostalgic Angry Spoon Snob Guy In The Shadows Nerd and I'm here to talk about the cinematic turdball that is Transformers 11: Still Transformin'

Now I know what you're thinking: Didn't I not review Transformers 10? Well the answer is, although I went to see it on opening day, T10 was just a recap of Transformers 5-9. I couldn't believe how many fratbro dudebro idiots went to see the movie, given how bad it was. Now let me pull up my 50$ commemorative Transformers 11 action figure to show you just how shitty even the toys for this thing are...
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That kind of makes it sound cooler than it was.

Incidentally, I recognise that font and list style. What's the book?

Some minor alterations were made, but nothing major.

Avatar should never have been made, but alas

We might as well live in the universe where it wasn't, for all the impact it had

I mean, it is, but it holds more promise on paper without the pseudo-Native American stuff.

That chart makes me uncomfortable too, but I mean, is it not enough to plainly say "Man I'm angry about [this thing here or that thing there]"? Honestly, it's a little off-putting, even if I'm used to this by now.

And yeah that does make Avatar sound better, when it's put so plainly.
