I just feel like people always tell me it's my fault when I complain about being swamped with something
I don't think it's your fault at all, it sucks being inundated with hate for a thing to the point where you're incapable of enjoying it and I do have sympathy for you
It's just that, one, you have caused that exact feeling in me, and two, I think you disingenuously overstate the hivemind mentality of Marvel fans to justify yourself and you come off like a disciple of Armond White as a result
Really? Because I have not heard a single negative comment about Civil War other than one single person saying the cinematography was boring.
I get it, yes, I overstate my hatred and go on too much, and it's annoying and nobody needs it, and I come off as a grumpster. I just feel very alone here, although I realize that is no excuse.
I actually am also pretty sick of the Marvel hype train (my IRL friend Patrick who maybe one or two of you know as Dr. Sloth is probably the biggest MCU fan on the planet) I just know I can't change anything about it so I say nothing.
Besides if we're talking about pop culture stuff that seemingly everyone likes that pisses us off ask me about Drake sometime.
For what it's worth, even though I took a tack that was overlapping, it wasn't entirely on-point; that said I didn't see any other relevant enough event happening within a time I'd prefer, so elaborating now instead of stewing (or something like it) was only efficient.
I've personally seen a lot of talk against Civil War, somehow, but dismiss it and my opinions concerning it or people talking about it like I almost do Suicide Squad. Since I'm pretty content where I am and just like enjoying stuff, and wishing others would simply live and let live with this stuff (Heaven forbid I care about something other than some meta-narrative that has nothing to do with what got me into checking out SSQuad in the first place). So, I could have handled it better, but I think that about covers my perspective?
V I forgot about the hardcore/casual distinction, which is also a good point.

I just felt like I was elaborating my feelings in the way people want me to do, and people decided to be terse and snipe at me instead of talk back.
Maybe that impression was innacurate, I'm sorry.
The thing is, I'm pretty sure that a lot of the people who would express strong negative feelings about something like Civil War would avoid seeing it or talking about it altogether, so the only "discourse" you're going to get is from the kind of people who have stuck with this franchise this far out, which is a pretty devoted hard core. It's not indicative of the better part of people who either just see it as popcorn fodder and don't feel strongly about it at all or those who have long since given up and would rather not discuss it.
I'm not sure what else to say. I'm not mad at you and I accept your apology. I'm just confused. Maybe it's because I don't hang around a lot of mainstream comics fans.
I still like the MCU, but I'm not a Stan for every project they've got in the pipeline (I think Doctor Strange is going to be a mess) and i don't think absolutely every film in the series thus far is perfect the way that some fans mentioned in the conversations we have here about them allegedly do.
I'm also ready for the trend of the "universe film franchise" to end, because we're getting to a point where the market is so saturated with things trying to be big money machines that they're suffering as actual enjoyable films (e.g. Batman v Superman).

Sorry. I just get kind of upset about your weird "me vs. the world" stance when I've actually seen a fair bit of good discourse about the MCU. I mean, if nothing else, I've got a few criticisms of my own but I just... can't give them because at least here the well is poisoned.

Who?
Honestly, I told you what I think the problem is here. Any sane person who isn't hype as fuck on the MCU or a crazed anti-fan is unlikely to invest the time into trashing this film, or even watching it with any expectations beyond "dumb action movie; ignore the awful politics." Superhero movies aren't somehow immune to this. They are the dumb action movie standard of this day and age. That they have a rabid stanbase due to comics being what they are is tangential to what most people who watch them get from them.
Oh, definitely, although there the bad stuff is less cloaked and a bit more honest. To whit, the "America saves the world" thing has gotten a lot darker since the second Bush administration.

Twitter Personality @GabrielDuquette who left a career in lame indie rock to go seek out wisdom and understand art. This didn't work out well, because his wisdom consists of buzzword laden not-even-wrong pontifications on nothing as well as constantly patting himself on the back for what a high-IQ high-insight band of obnoxious libertarians and crypto-nazis he's fallen into. And his understanding of art leads to him being eternally disappointed, because he's too much of a close-minded philistine for artsy movies and too much of a haughty snob for popular movies.
Thankfully he is really, really, easy to avoid, so I never actually read his twitter except for those odd moments he becomes semi-relevant.
^^ I can't, and I'd rather not regale you with my technical issues to put a finer point on it. The fact that merely talking about it is making me angry and anxious should tell you that I am in no fit state.

It's not ROT13 and it's not Atbash, so I can't be bothered to try and figure it out

Apparently he was in Ra Ra Riot, who I remember being quasi-relevant when all those neo-retro dance-punk bands were the new hotness circa 2004. Huh.
Apparently a guy was thrown out of DIIV for being a /b/ creep, so there's precedent here, I guess.
Anyway, I'mma go now. Have a good night, everybody.

Fwiw this was pretty much my stance on Civil War
