Something that's bugging me, again:

Whenever I bring up that I don't want to date someone that smokes or drinks excessively, I get presented with the same two choices:

Give up and date a smoker/drinker just to see what it's like, because "you may be missing out, dude";
Give up and go back to LDS, which is unacceptable because I have major problems with the dogma and the Church's stance on LGBT people.

This is a classic example of a false dilemma, in my opinion, and I'm concerned that I may be getting bullied. There has to be a third option because I know plenty of women who aren't interested in drinking or smoking that aren't Mormon. Telling me things like "you'll be waiting another 10 years for another chance if you insist" is NOT HELPFUL :P

Yeah, I know, right? Also...I'm not even sure I want to date that much. Sure, it'd be nice to have a girlfriend, but the way you're "supposed to do it" (bars and dating services) have always kind of creeped me out if I put too much thought into it, and if people try to pressure me into it, I feel like people are trying to get me to drink cheap beer. And I hate beer. :P

I know the friend I discussed this with is trying to help, but it's not like he met his wife through a dating service or through long nights of hanging out in bars, either. They started as friends first, much as he likes to retcon this now.

Of course, we'd both been up all night and were tired and irritable when we were discussing this, so that may have been a factor.

Other public places(like a Mall, Arcade, or a Gaming Store) are a much better way to do it. :)
