Khan in Into Darkness is not a commentary on anything, he exists because he was in another star trek movie and it is assumed we understand that he is important for that reason
???
I thought ID was if anything criticized for being too heavy-handed political commentary.
While the whole casting a white dude as Khan thing was supremely dubious, I actually think the Cucurbit's take on the role was really nifty. It's like he's playing Shere Khan from The Jungle Book—specifically George Scott's version in the Disney movie—wearing a human suit, and not always a convincing human suit.
He was the most gentlest rhino ever brought into a china shop, which does not nullify the fact that a rhino shouldn't be brought into a china shop
^^ The exact statement is a bit suspect, but I understand the concept of 'this plot elements matters more because of something that isn't relevant to the film instead of what is'.
You could say that Khan was changed to the point that calling him Khan functions more as an artifact than a functional part of the script.
I apologize if I start beating a very weathered drum here. I'm still a bit angry at Gods of Egypt up there doing the 'everybody's super white in Egypt' thing again.
I'm not even asking for Nubian black people. Just...at least try a little
Well, yeah, it was... a bizarre choice, to say the least. I get that he was playing it purely alien and maybe they were even going for a bit of social commentary or something but it's such an awkward choice on so, so many levels. I just can't tell what the logic was, initially.
i for one, as a person who generally avoids talking about anything race related, am more than willing to articulate a frustration wrt inexplicably very white egyptians

A WB receipt was leaked online, showing that the hugely successful movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ended up with a $167 million loss on paper.
My friend was dying when I spoke to him, and he felt himself helpless in the formless grasp of the iridescent bubble-congeries. Ahead raced the small, kaleidoscopic polyhedron, and all through the strange days the professors stayed away in contempt. Only one of the factors is zero. The reasoning involves a disjunction.
I watched the The Boondocks episode about the Freedom Riders. It turns the Birmingham thing into a martial arts fight. The wiry dude who doesn't want to be there fights with a belt he uses as a whip, and the preacher leading the thing, this tank-looking dude, fights in accordance with the principles of nonviolent resistance by eliminating harm to people. Like, he'll send a dude flying, but then run and catch him and set him down gently on the ground.
Whole thing's incredible. Actually funny, not based on Well Racism Wasn't That Bad, and got some samurai champloo shit or whatever happening. No wonder people love this show.
best line was of course "<civil rights veteran> In [wiry dude who doesn't want to be there]'s defense, when you think about it, nonviolent resistance is completely insane."
Man, you want some samurai champloo stuff, you gotta watch the kickball episode
I think I saw part of that. With the old-ish assassins with weird weapons?
Nah, that's the Hateocracy episode. Also up there, but not kickball tier
Nothing is kickball tier
Noted.
I mean, I'm not in it for the fight scenes. I'm in it for jokes. Fight scenes are just a nice break, and even better if the fight scenes can reinforce the joke (e.g., Sturdy's weird-ass fighting style).
People make fun of 50 Cent for 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand, but I think a lot of people would like a video game made about them where they were portrayed as an unstoppable god of destruction who could take an RPG to the chest and not flinch.

The Kickball episode is also a really good joke episode. Just a really solid premise with good writing behind it, not just comedically. I'd rank the Fried Chicken Flu above it, but it's close

He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the World Dog.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the World Dog.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the
very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the World Dog about it.
"World Dog, You said that once I decided to follow You,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome
times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed You most
You would leave me."
The World Dog replied, "My son, My precious child,
I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
And the World Dog said
