Yeah, I noticed that this comic just doesn't make any sense. Why are there computers in it if no one really discusses them (except to make the occasional attempt at a zinger about how cell phones are weird)?
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Things there will never be a single definitive answer to: why so many clocks use "IIII" for 4 instead of "IV"

i have the feeling tachyon wouldn't like this one but it's legit how i felt when i took that literary criticism class
mainly when I've had a central thesis that can be supported in well under the required word count
I hate word counts. And page counts. And anything else that requires me to artificially stretch out my point.
I know they're encouraging people to pick topics that they can talk about at length, or to think about the topic in new ways and find some other aspect that they can address, but dangit, most people aren't that clever.

actually imo, being clever results in figuring out how to get the point across faster, which means that word counts punish cleverness and reward mediocrity

The Central Avenue Cycle:
wishing she were a child → wishing she were a literal goddess → wishing she were a magical princess in real life → wishing she were British
I think I'm on stage 4 right now
Also in 2013 there was the extra stage of "wishing she were an alicorn"
I feel like in video games auteur theory stuff analogous to movies might be more relevant
The thing is that outside of small indie games, creating a game is a large-scale collaborative effort, not unlike a big-budget film but arguably to an even greater degree; and while the auteur concept has some merits in the idea that the head of the creative team may be the central driver of aesthetic and narrative choice, it is excessively reductive when it comes to something that is so much a product of disparate factors.

that's what I meant
sorry, I thought auteur theory meant "auteur is kind of a dumb concept"

That's the death of the author. Auteur theory is what that is reacting against.

That's... wrong.
Although people do abuse "death of the author" as an excuse for dodgy stuff all the time.
