I don't think there's a specific name for the crosswalk as a whole but the warning lights are called "rectangular rapid flashing beacons", and they're a relatively new thing.
The pedestrian pushes a button and the amber LEDs below the crosswalk sign blink in a stutter-flash pattern like the lights on a police car.

Eagle-eyed (or autistic) viewers will note that they added a dedicated left turn lane at the intersection just past the crosswalk, which honestly is probably the only reason they bothered updating the crosswalk to begin with (it was part of the same project).

I like how Watterson thought of two variations on this gag and just decided "why not use both"
I'll be honest, I don't get it/see the issue (besides like "oh durr so emotional women" but I feel like that's not all). I also don't even recognize the comic or know what it's called. What's up exactly?
I'm starting to suspect that one day there will be a bunch of half-finished comics sent to the syndicate.
They will send someone to figure out what's wrong, and they will find Frank Bolle dead, face-down at his drawing table.
There will be a bunch of scrawls drawn by rote in front of him, since that's the only thing his muscle memory allowed him to do anymore, even as his motor skills detoirated.

Take a look at how shaky the linework and lettering are.
Oh, yeah. Se I thought the postures were an intentional part of the comic (much like the woman's lack of expression), I didn't notice everything else. That's worrying.

To be fair, the postures in these old soap opera comics are normally pretty static, so I can understand thinking that was normal.

Most cartoonists don't color their own strips except Sundays, so I don't think we can blame Bolle for the color-changing jacket.
Apart from that, though...yikes. I mean, I get that nobody wants to tell a 91-year-old artist he can't do his job anymore, but still.
I didn't notice it until it was pointed out to me.
I just sorta assumed it was part of the lighting or other features.
[general comment about the internets] Why can't other people do this? Just assume it's supposed to be like that, rather than nitpick stuff and try to find fault. How about trying to explain things and being helpful to the other side? Internet, stop being douchey, stop making hay (and viewcounts) from being douchey, and learn to accept things as they are instead of complaining about how everything you read/watch/play/hear sucks by nitpicking at it.

Even so compare something like this
To this strip which came out the exact same day
Also notice how nothing anyone is saying in the second strip makes any sense

Amazing.
I thought Apartment 3-G had a separate writer, so I'm confused that the dialogue has become incoherent too.
I wonder why the writer hasn't said anything to Bolle about this.

Like I said, nobody wants to be the one to tell the 91-year-old man "yeah...you can't really art anymore, sorry"

still haven't found a shaving cream that I'm satisfied with though...
*hugs*
I have had bread pudding, and it was pretty tasty, but I have never had blood pudding.

also, inb4 "but you're complaining too"
Alternately, he simply does not care anymore because he knows that nobody will fire him.
