I maintain that Halo's story and worldbuilding are actually very interesting, people just don't like it because it's an FPS so they assume it's dudebro shit and/or some kind of propaganda.
he actually (and unsurprisingly) has more in common with The Security Officer.
Marathon (from whence the Security Officer comes) came out a year after Doom, but they were in development around the same time, so it's hard to say if there was any influence / cross-pollination, although the folks at Bungie certainly had a bit of a rivalry with their Windows counterpart, if largely a one-sided one.
Bungie typically sticks within the same wheelhouse for the designs of its protagonists, with the noted exception of Oni, as Konoko from that game (and, really, that game period) doesn't resemble anything from their catalog before or since. (Destiny does get points for being more adventurous w/r/t its characters' looks, though.)
Fun fact: my first exposure to anything Bungie was actually watching my dad play through Oni.
Combined with the fact that we ended up owning Halo soon afterward, I guess you could say it was only a matter of time before I got hooked on their work in some form.
Only a bit of the first one a few years back, though not anything substantial because I was dumb and squeamish at the time.
I'm willing to give it another try down the road. Might be a bit before I get the chance because I didn't take the family 360 with me to school, but still.
Well, it's implied that pretty much all AIs in the Bungieverse will go rampant one way or another, it's just that they need huge networks to actually propagate.

do eet
Halo CE is a great game that still holds up, 3 is almost as good as it, and 2 is not fantastic but still very solid.
Now I'm wondering if the concept of rampancy's ever going to make it into Destiny.
(If it hasn't already. One could make an argument for Rasputin, a xenophobic Russian 'warmind' AI with a temper, but they haven't put much out there to imply that he was ever particularly cooperative beyond his basic operations for the Vanguard.)

They're operating on roughly the right timeframe w/r/t console replacements.
of course you know this
but it's not my thing in general so
holy crap

Very, very little, because my hand/eye coordination is atrocious.
