It's not that weird. Sure the content isn't exactly War and Peace, but it's not like y'all aren't having a serious (enough) discussion about what makes a game good or bad.
Also, I feel like this conversation would be decidedly different if Tach weren't in a bad mood (not meant as a jab at you Tach, just using your own words). Aside from that I didn't see anyone taking anything personally, and honestly, rarely do I think that's even the case. Heated? Sure. Misunderstanding and/or fast-paced? Both inevitable.
I just don't honestly feel like these conversations are destructive or ugly a fair bit of the time.

I don't think just because Kex holds strongly to his opinions and tries to be thorough necessarily equates to that. He's gone on record with mentioning how he's as liable as anyone else to be wrong.
I honestly don't mind the game design talk, but the way it always seems to blow up into big destructive arguments is quite frustrating.

i wasn't a SNES kid, i didn't get to play that until later. i grew up with Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash.
