  • I thought he made a lot of reasonable, interesting points but was WAAAAAY too aggressive and condescending

FWIW in the Game Grumps playthrough of ALttP he says he hates that video
  • I just read "Grumps" as "Trumps" and that means I should get some sleep.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I read through the second arc of the New 52's Justice League because it had Asura in it, and while I think they look super cool, it just makes me so upset because I hate that Justice League.

I hate the tone, I hate how the League are just assholes for no reason to the people they're supposed to have good relationships with, I hate how they default to melodrama every time instead of connecting, I hate the idea of superheroes as gods, I hate the attempt at tragedy that just looks really pathetic, I hate how they try to sell us this problem as something reasonable to be worried about but it is, and I hate Wonder Woman/Superman.

    I hate it.

I don't have a lot of standards for my sideblogs. I'll put stuff from things I actively hate if I think it will help. Like Korra, I hate Korra. But hey, kung fu. I'm not too keen on Gundam either, but hey, it's there.

But I feel ashamed putting Nanoha stuff there. I guess I'm also ashamed of Madoka too, but that comes up a lot less.

Well, I've just come to hate it over the years. How it does certain things, the statements it comes to, the ideas, etcetera.
  • Madoka has kind of grown outside of itself to encompass an entire attitude.

Not really the show's fault itself, but unfortunate nonetheless.

Well, technically, wouldn't it be about me, seeing as though I am vain enough to have posts made about me.

    The Game Trumps.

Donald Trump's next logically step is to move to Let's plays.

it has, despite being a fine show in of itself, become a bulwark of the lolejjy movement.
  • i liked Madoka for its economy of storytelling, effective pacing, and effective use of interwoven motifs and themes.

it seems to have developed a large fandom based around none of those things, because Fandom does not care about those sorts of things. because Fandom sucks ass.

Donald Trump's move is to increase his PRIDE (not just pride, PRIDE) quotient to 1000%
  • Because it's a cynical take on a usually idealistic genre that looks, but not too hard, at that genre's conventions.

Donald Trump will make anime real

    Ah.

    Darn.

that's not why I like anything tbh
  • of course, i do not let that put me of, because if i did that would mean ignoring everything that becomes even vaguely popular
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
motifs and themes are the best

I have seen some of what y'all are talking about, but is it really that big an issue?
  • Not any more than most media-related stuff is, I suppose not.
  • i have no idea, i operate merely on heresay, a shred of evidence, and my intimate knowledge of the power of Fandom to make everything it gets its hands on significantly less engaging.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I guess its pace was really good.

But like...why are Mami's breasts so big? Is it because some kids have physiological differences that cause them to experience puberty faster than most? Or is it because it was sold to a particular audience?

you are prone to negative exaggeration, friendo.
  • start giving my streams fanciful titles y/n

i do exaggerate but it does seem to me that Fandom is this sort of roving beast that takes a given work or set of works and sort of breaks it down into a few certain things it wants to find (things to ship, things to have "feels" over, things to stick ya dick into, ect.), without really engaging with what the thing is trying to say/do/whatever.

well, probably the latter? but that is patently obvious.

I definitely feel that frustration with fans. What I'm interested in is in no way ever anything everyone else is interested in.

fanciful titles are great so y

I think Mami's breasts are like they are just because they fit in with her design.

Her breasts aren't even all that large in the original series.
  • like, if you just look at fan content, Madoka is the same as Homestuck is the same as Star Trek is the same as Steven Universe is the same as Invader Zim is the same as Adventure Time is the same as Welcome to Night Vale. like, it's an endless series of palette swaps, even though the works these fandoms are ostensibly celebrating have very little in the way of commonalities.

that is because that is how most people engage with media.

    including myself, honestly.

The sort of analytical approach that concerns itself with messages, overarching themes, etc. is rare, and not without reason.

i honestly like didnt notice that her breasts were larger than average when i was watching

and when it was pointed out to me i was like "oh, that makes sense, she serves as a mentor so she is slightly more physically mature"
  • To put it another way, your problem is not with Fandom--fandoms are just groups of people connected by a common interest after all--your problem is with how most people engage media.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
It is patently obvious to us, but not to the people who stretch to justify it.

I guess then yeah, I have a problem with how most people engage with media.
  • why would it need to be justified?

    same then
  • Also I actually find most "fandom drama" (fights over shipping and whatnot) kind of endearing cuz it's mostly younger kids who do that sort of thing and idk it's just kind of funny at a distance.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
Sayaka's breasts are relatively large for her frame, too, yet nobody fixates on them like they do Mami's.

When I do my streams, should I leave 101 Dalmatians: The Series off the voting list in the future? Nobody's ever voted for it.

Mami is The Fanservice Character, at least until she gets her head bitten off.

I dunno that feels fairly obvious to me. Whether or not it's a problem is the larger question.
  • i will say I find the sheer amount of SU/Rick & Morty crossover art utterly baffling considering how the shows have next to nothing in common.

they're on the same network at least

also all the CN and AS shows are/were in the same fictional universe

I guess but there's no SU/Adventure Time art that I've seen and those shows have a lot more in common.

In fact there seems to be a good deal of antipathy between the two fandoms.
