Yeah, Parruckiling, it's what Nonny does about Hanna-Barbera and Naney does about Fashion.  And what Centie used to do about Fonts.
    Don't forget me!

My male Sim was abducted by aliens and came back pregnant with the alien baby.

It's a girl alien called Nebula.

And the not so imaginary friend is called Lucky

    and Rolly I guess
  • The game named her that. I rolled with it because the Sim she was friends with was called Lucy. Thought it was quite cool.

    Lucy and Lucky.

Lucy has grown up to be a bitch, though.
  • I didn't do it.

    Directly.

    This time.

That seems to amount to "don't critique elements of culture because it makes me tired"

Like things are only loudly lambasted like that because of how popular they are. Entourage isn't just terrible because it's pandering, sexist bullshit, it's terrible because it's pandering, sexist bullshit that's really popular. And people need to criticize that, because otherwise the only voices are positive ones.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    Nobody likes Jonathan Franzen though
  • His books sell. Nobody /you talk to/ likes him, but you don't talk to everybody.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Content Must Be Consumed, I getcha
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i would imagine most of the people buying the books actually like them.  But i would also guess that most of those people are not reading those kinds of reviews.

come on guys, please don't fight.

    Also this.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
"We have to keep sacrificing pigs to the volcano, because the rain hasn't come back" is an opinion I have to take seriously for some reason, even though I am getting really tired of the bacon shortage.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
But the rain isn't coming back, whether we kill pigs or not.

    If i understood your analogy.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    Exactly.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I've secretly been working for all the evil forces of Corporate Media That Want You Go Consume Their Content, and THAT'S why I disagree with you. There could be no other possible reasons, not even the ones I have provided beforehand, it has always been about enforcing the Need To Consume Content. And by identifying me as a corporate shill, you have immunized yourself to the corrupting influence of Content.

    Yes.
  • things I know about Johnathan Franzen:

    * he wrote a book that a bunch of people on NPR liked that had a bird on the cover

    that is literally it.
  • I have asked for the opinion of Sredni
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i had literally no idea there was a person named Johnathan Franzen before this discussion.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I feel my desire to stop hearing people whine is just as valid as people's desire to stop hearing me whine.
  • I can't be reasonably expected to not get irritated when I'm repeatedly dismissed as... shit, I don't even know what. A member of one of the various factions that is beneath Odradek's contempt, at any rate.

Man no one here is defending John whatsisname.

I don't even know who this guy is.

    i meant both of you.

This means, incidentally, that i have never once heard anyone whine about Johnathan Franzen, but i hear this Consume Content stuff like multiple times a week

I was being too mean, and was unfair, sorry.

Well I hear this multiple times a week.

that said, this is obviously not what that article boils down to, the article boils down to " writing redundant, rehashed media criticism is a waste of everyone's time" which is a similar but much more valid point
  • I just wanna talk about how underrated Ski Beatz is.
  • "I have read little of his work but he sounds like a cross between Emile Zola and Tom Clancy. Apparently his ideas are very cool and he writes beautiful asides about the oddest things, but his plots meander or veer into awkward places and his character writing is inconsistent; particularly, he has issues with writing women, especially in his latest, written after his divorce."

    the sredni has spoken
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
The Ben Marcus article deBoer linked is pretty good, at least as far as i've read
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    how underrated is Ski Beatz?
  • Odradek said:

you ever hear the old joke about the guy who goes to the doctor with eye pain?

he says "doctor, doctor: everytime I drink cocoa my eye hurts!" and the doctor asks him "have you tried taking out the spoon?"
  • Tachyon said:

He is IMO one of the best producers ever. He's done several songs for Jay-Z and produced two cult rap classics in their entirety (Uptown Saturday Night by Camp Lo and Pilot Talk by Curren$y).

He seems to rarely be brought up in GOAT producer discussions compared to someone who is equally worthy but more well known like Dilla or Dr. Dre.
  • ski beatz is a good moniker
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch

this was really cool and interesting to watch
  • Rhythm Roulette is a great series.

They have some legends as well as some guys who are well known contemporarily (El-P, etc.) and also some lesser known dudes (Kirk Knight, Digga, Jonwayne, etc.)
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
guess i'll be watching more of these
