So I'm starting on a new music project as of today. It'll be a hip-hop beat tape and will be called Beet Tape for the sake of punnery. Likely it will also have beets on the cover.
Currently have two tracks for it ("To Tha Punk Kidz" and "A Sexy Bitch Named Jellyfish") so I'm comfortable saying this will be a thing. Dunno how long it'll be though.
I should post this in the music thread shouldn't I.
Yeah, they can be pretty lurid. I'm also pretty sure they do it on purpose, to get people watching and talking; I mean, who would have cared about, say, Fear Factor if people weren't talking about how gross it was?
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
lee: There was one of those cartoons that I found hilarious when I first found it. The ending of it involved Moses and an army of treehouse-dwellers defeating the British and an oil spill turning everyone into acne-covered nerds.

Sometimes I want FL Studio, but I'd need to use one of the house's Windows computers (I'm on a MacBook right now) and also it costs money and I'm not sure I'd use it that often.

I keep thinking of imaginary news music packages but I don't know how I'd avoid making them sound overly canned. inthegroovemusic manages to avoid it by taking cues from popular music (e.g. heavy use of guitars; Pride is almost entirely devoid of traditional newsy instruments and Heart of the City uses them conservatively).

@cybernetic squid: That's funny, earlier today I was thinking "it would be hilarious if somebody wrote some Anonymous Avenue fanfiction."
Also:
a particularly cheesy disco song from the 1970's.
I see what you did there. Funny that it was like a year ago that I was obsessed with that song.

Anonus brings happiness to the world. 2.9% lines contained smiling faces. :)
AliceTensei isn't a sad person either, smiling 2.9% of the time.
CentralAve seems to be sad at the moment: 4.9% lines contained sad faces. :(
ColorPrinter is also a sad person, crying 4.8% of the time.
Apparently AU was happy yesterday and I was sad. Who knew?

I seem to have a vague recollection of VSTs working under certain conditions in Linux, but that Audacity only supported a few types of them anyway because it doesn't have a sequencer. (Audacity was the only app I really tried in; this was years ago.)
Then again, I'd probably be slapping together my own voices in a modular synth app anyway, so I'm not sure if I'd need VSTs.

His "An Open Note" sounds like the whiny, passive-aggressive crap my granny does when no one's talked to her in a few days (probably because she was being mean again). :P

So I am having a dilemma.
I am done with two different versions of this song. The only difference is the snare sample they use.
One uses FL Studio's default sample, the other uses a "click" snare like you'd find in many mainstream rap songs.
WHICH ONE DO I UUUUUSE ;-;
Yeah, the click sounds better, listening to them side by side.
IMO: Rattles are underused in modern hip-hop. Almost every sample pack comes with them, but no one ever uses them.

FL Studio makes this so much easier

Yarrun: I too have learned the magic of FL Studio.
Granted, its most useful feature to me is its ability to act as a sampler.

^ FL Studio is a sampling engine. We use it to make cool beats
There's a free demo version, Anonus.
Heck, that's what I use. Since I only need FL for drum loop making.
Morby: Music program. All-in-one sampler, drum machine, synthesizer and a ton of other things.

Well, I suppose my free version will be sufficient for now.
It'll have to be, seeing that my enduring cheapness won't let me buy a better one.
There are several synthesizer plugins for it and it can be used as a drum machine.
Hence what I said.
Technically speaking it's a DAW, but...yeah. Most people don't really know what that is.
It's not really a very common term outside of music circles. :|
anyway.
I think I may just forego breakbeats for this album other than the one in "Kidz". It's easier to get loops to do what I want.
I love those! :(

Justice should dig that.
