    I don't feel tired though
  • I think I was exhausted from my anxiety attack last night

    *hugs*
  • The sister is coming round to pick up her dog, which means she'll probably be showing me the bridesmaids dresses she's picked out.
  • im a lil frustrated

this whole Guangzhou thing seemed to be happening but the dude was supposed to be sending us invitation letter s for our visas this morning and none have materialised

like maybe its just a small problem their end, idk, it could be nothing, but we actually need these by tomorrow and they have not appeared

if they don't appear today then we will probably not be going tbqh even if it is just lack of organisation and i dont wanna trust an organisation in a foreign country which cant even get our visa letters on time
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    That's unfortunate. :(

Is it possible the post is just late?  The weather here is terrible, perhaps that's delayed things?

I'm in the engineering computer lab

I get an insanely stupid allotment of pages to print for free each week, but I try to use it responsibly

Still, I definitely save anything I want printed for here, because it saves me having to use the inkjet printer at home and stuff looks nicer coming from a laser printer anyways

we should be getting them via email. we haven't heard from him since yesterday afternoon. could be nothing but it makes me a bit nervy

anyhow the boyfriend's parents are taking us out to diinner at a nice indian restaurant tonight which should help take my mind off things

wtf at my uni we don't get to print anything for free, it's like 10p a page. outrageous
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i suppose you tried emailing them back?

    good luck
  • yep. no response as of yet.

idk if we don't end up going it won't be the end of the world and i won't have to leave my friends and in a way it would be easier, less scary, but it would also be a shame. and it would have been a whole lot of hassle and worry about something which didnt even happen.

    i can imagine.
  • anyway here's a kitty and a birb

  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    d'aww
  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...

It's late enough that the lines of fiction and reality are starting to blur

Does our belief in Touhous make them real?

nothing could ever make touhou real

    your waifu is trash
    How dare

Our libraries and stuff charge us for printing but students in the engineering program get a certain number of "free" pages per week in the college of engineering labs; presumably the other majors have similar programs
  • I know the music building has 7 free pages a day, though that's not public knowledge to those outside the major.

Free printing exists, but you gotta be in the know to know about it. Common knowledge methods usually cost 7 cents a page, and more for color.
  • All these goddamn music festivals.

Reading and Leeds festival is over, and it's still being tweeted about.

And are, in fact, on opposite side of the map
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
iirc our printer costs were 4p a page

    afaik it was never free
  • The printer at Uni costs 5p for A4 and 10p for A3.

So I just use my own printer at my Halls.

Civil Engineering pre-majors (like me) get 107 free pages a week, which is already insanely generous

But to add to that, they STACK UP if you don't use them, so now I've got like 1300 pages on my account

Also they give you a discount if you print double-sided
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i guess US colleges can afford to be less stingy, given the size of those tuition fees
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Also we only have one paper size, US Letter (8½ by 11 inches)
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
(that was an observation, not a gloat)
  • The uni printers print work double sided, which is great for essays and dissertations

I'm going entirely on grants this semester so I can't complain

I'm essentially going to school for free
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
also our paper was A4 only
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Mind you, if I actually tried to print 1300 pages at once the UTA superviising the lab would probably throw me out before calling IT to cancel my print job
  • Is a pre-major the same as an undergraduate? Someone who has come to University who has no degree?
  • Mind you, someone on my course is doing a PhD at the same time as an Undergraduate degree.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Pre-major means I intend to complete the Civil Engineering program and get my BSCE, but I haven't yet met the prerequisites for admission to the major.

    Ah, gotcha.

Undergraduate is someone who has never got a bachelor's degree who is working towards a degree, and will get one at the end of the (usually) three year course.

So I'm an undergraduate working towards a BSc in Forensic Science. Should I wish to get a Master's or PhD, I'd then be a Postgraduate.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
if it gets you a bachelor's degree, that's basically the same as a uk undergrad

in which case i've always misunderstood the term 'major', huh

Basically if I pass chem this semester and keep my GPA high enough, I'll become a civil engineering major and get to take actual civil engineering courses

so what qualification do you get when you complete those courses?  the BSCE or something higher?

We use the term "undergraduate" here too

"Major" in general just means your field of study, whether it's at the undergraduate or graduate level

    I'd get the BSCE, yeah
  • And we don't have Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior years, either.

The first week before teaching week is called "Fresher's Week", but that's it. We're just "first years, "second years" etc.
  • And we don't have the Greek House thing, either.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    we have societies, though
  • I'll be mentoring the new crotch dumplings who join in September, which means mingling with them, which means Fresher's Flu awaits.

    Yay.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    always fun >_<

let's hope you avoid it this year

Well, I got my last class for today coming up

Talk to y'all in a bit
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
y'know at my uni, we did call the first years freshers

we didn't have any particular name for second or third year students, tho, they were just second and third years
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    see you CA
  • Bye, Centie. Have fun!

I got Fresher's Flu last year, despite my efforts to avoid it. The Saturday and Sunday before Fresher's Week, I ate healthily and slept well and was feeling great. The first Monday of FW, started feeling a bit ill. By Tuesday, I was on death's door.
  • I walked into the meeting room on the Tuesday, and everyone told me to go home and go to bed. But I had to stay because all the activities were mandatory.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    :(

well, fingers crossed you avoid it this year, then

Hopefully, I will. I'll be with my group of crotch dumplings for a couple of hours a day, which should be enough to avoid breathing in any germs.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
