At least I generally expect this kind of thing on UM and OddFutureTalk
I think the only reason it bothers me at all when it happens on TVTropes is because TVTropes is TVTropes.
I am not sure if I'm just wearing my nostalgia goggles tight or if there really was a time when TVT was something other than yet another place on the internet with an unpleasant userbase and irresponsible moderation.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh to expect anything more than that.

Honestly, the people who I wound up calling friends after joining TvTropes were the last people I would have suspected. Life is weird like that, I suppose. :)

Too be fair, I had it coming. Page-stretching, contentless threads, excessively inane antics, and other assorted stupidity all should have gotten me banned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay sooner. But I never did.
Seriously, I would have rather been banned sooner for something that actually made sense. Getting banned for something so overwhelmingly silly kinda seems anti-climactic.

I would only ban someone if they were behaving inappropriately for the forum, and after being warned not to a few times. Maybe this is easy to say and hard to do, but that is what I would try to do if I were a moderator.

I was a little weirded out the first time I saw one, because it seemed like an odd departure from the typical diamond interchange, but in practice it strikes me as a very efficient design.
