Well, it's pretty much in the name, isn't it? Dame Adorabelle's Academy for the Magically Gifted and Talented, after all. It makes sense that everyone would have some degree of magical understanding, even if there are students who are basically like Waver Velvet from Fate/Zero (a non-leader and one of the least magically gifted in the show, for those not in the know). Of course then you have the Princess, who's also a goddess, and Alisha, who has a faint fragment of the goddess' energy in her. She's like half-specialized.
So, yes, it makes sense for everyone to have some degree of magical aptitude if not necessarily a specialization (like SFS seems the type to not want that to me?). I see it as a scale, and not everyone has to or should be equal, so much as the Academy should be accomodating towards those obvious facts. That's not to say the focus characters, naturally, won't have specializations.
Seriously I don't get why people are so keen on judging RWBY so early.
Barely anything has happened in the story/setting/world of RWBY. Each season has the content equivalent of a few standard half-hour episodes of an anime series, at most.
If the story ended here, then yeah, have at it. But the story hasn't ended yet. You can't judge things this early.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

That makes a lot of sense, actually. Thanks for helping me clear that up.
Also, unrelatedly I just noticed I've had a file with "Twiglight" in the name for two years. Go me.
Sure, there was a story arc involving Jaune. So? Does it play well in the grand scheme of things? Well, that's a trick question because no one (short of possibly the writers themselves) actually knows what the grand scheme of things is. So the question cannot be answered at this time.

Tools do you want to be a student at Dame Adorabelle's Academy for the Magically Gifted and Talented??
RWBY ran for 2 seasons, i think it's unreasonable to expect people to wait longer than that to form an opinion
as someone who has long had an interest in web serials, it's important to be aware that it's not the same format as that of an anime or movie
the episodes are shorter and the pacing should reflect this
I thought that Season 2 was a fair bit better than Season 1, personally.
Agreed.
Though @Tachyon I'm not sure how the episode lengths and the pacing really affect this, unless one wants to argue that they should get on with it already or something. But that argument would implicitly presume that web series should not be able to support long-form stories with lengthy setting development and narrative buildup, which I feel is a wrong presumption.
i would say that web series wishing to take that approach should probably use much shorter episodes, released on a much more frequent basis - maybe even daily, though in RWBY's case it's animated so that's not feasible. As far as animated story arcs go, i felt the first season of Bravest Warriors (very short episodes, released weekly, with self-contained stories but contributing to a longer arc) got the pacing right.
i'm not actually knocking RWBY here. i never actually finished season 2, and as far as i saw it was much better than the first season. But it's not reasonable to expect people to refrain from forming an opinion after 2 whole seasons.
But they only call them seasons. They together have the same content as maybe 6 to 10 standard-length TV show episodes.
You're not wrong.
i'm referring, though, to the structure, which is 2 seasons of semi-self-contained stories of 1 or 2 episodes in length, with BIIIIIG pauses between seasons. If you're watching the show as it comes out, that does make a difference.
my avatar folder is broken up into lots of subfolders so it doesn't make for interesting screenshots
the largest subfolders are Doctor Who, Touhou, Gunnerkrigg Court and Homestuck, though you'll notice this doesn't actually reflect which avatars i use most frequently
My avatar folder is, unsurprisingly, mostly Homestuck.
It's not all Vriska though. I've got a lot of Terezi too, and some Nepeta and Kanaya and Tavros, with a few of the other trolls here and there, a few of the kids... I forgot all what else.
Other than that I've got random dollmaker avatars (these were mostly either self portraits or OCs for roleplaying), a few Medusas, some cats... and some other random stuff.

MicroSD to SD card adapters are funny to me because it's literally just a pass-through--the pinout on the cards is the same, so it's just adapting the physical size of the thing.
i have 2 avatars of Caliborn and 2 avatars of Calliope, entitled "FORBIDDEN SPOILER AVATAR", "SPOILER AVATAR SO FORBIDDEN", "still forbidden as fuck why even make this" and "SUPER FORBIDDEN AVATAR NEVER USE"
by the time i decided they were no longer too spoilery to use i had moved on to other things
I could remedy that, 8ut at this point I'm so "known" for the Vriska ones I haven't gotten any new avatars in ages.
Like I could get some Steven Universe ones or some pony ones or some Disney ones or something 8ut there's no point to that if I just use Vriska anyway.

Listening to Fall Out Boy has me thinking about my teen years
I would describe myself as "wannabe emo" but I think that's kind of a redundant phrase
Basically I was emo in every way except fashion because my parents still picked out my clothes

Aw come on, nobody wants to talk to me about being emo?

I did, but I guess I don't really count since I don't have a sort of "normal" expectation since I don't actually watch TV (nor anime as it comes out).

"Well, this difficulty should be easy to chew."
"A nice amount of firmness."
"So firm that your jaw will get tired."
"Please do not eat."
