skip to 19:58 for a summary of Adorno's aesthetic views
if you're at all interested in academic literary criticism, you might find Fry's lectures interesting, they're all on YouTube and he covers all the major thinkers from slightly before the start of modern theory and up to the 1990s in considerable detail
this is probably shallow but i've always liked guitar solos
at least, good ones, maybe? but idk if i'm qualified to say what's a good one since i don't play the guitar
they just make me feel good
that's fine
when i was like 15 or so i didn't like guitar solos because i felt that they were overly flashy and distracted one from the "meat" of the song and how it was put together and stuff (*15 year old me did not know much music theory, but was very opinionated about these things*)
which is kinda like what Adorno talks about with composers leading to big crescendos and whatnot i think?
listening to this i want to go back in time and sit Adorno down with a copy of Temporary Suspension by Planetary Assault Systems or some other really monolithic techno record with like minimal melodic development i think it would really fuck with him
now i am remembering some guy, i forgot who, talking (approximately) about how, contrary to claims of elitism, avant-garde art movements that rely little on technical skill promote the democratization and accessibility of art
i.e. if you make art anyone could make, anyone can make art, which makes it easier for them to engage with art

honestly, no joke, 'the Sublime' is probably a big part of why guitar solos appealed to me
i don't know how to put it into words, a good solo just seems really awe inspiring
it's an almost sexual quality, a jubilance, i don't know how to express it
