I admit I don't understand the reasoning behind depicting the packaging on the packaging.
I can't think of any other product that does that.
That's really weird. I guess the wrapper is part of what people think of when they think of the product, though, or more specifically the configuration the wrapper forces them into. The platonic ideal of a smartie isn't a smartie, but the transparent cylindrical alignment of smarties.

In America we have "Sweethearts", which are the same concept but a slightly different execution--the entire candy is heart-shaped!

I was watching an episode of Amazing Wedding Cakes on Food Network UK and these cake makers made an engagement cake that was a cardboard box with fondant sweethearts falling out of the box and around the cake.
Somewhere we used to shop when I was a kid had candy hearts with raised letters... like they were heart shaped like the Sweethearts and the letters were raised like on the ones Tachyon posted.
They were really good and I don't know who made them (might've even 8een a locally made thing from some little independent company) and I have not had a candy heart that good since, and now I want to try those Love Hearts and I don't know where the hell I'd find them.

i never knew about Sweethearts before . . . evidently they're much older, they go back to 1901 whereas Love Hearts were started in 1954
