"The contemporary audience is predominantly composed of people who do not even know how to watch a film. Born and raised on the undemanding medium of television, and subscribing to the Star Wars/Matrix/Transformers school of movies as merchandising blockbuster events, the bulk of the ADHD audience lacks the essential tools to process anything less than hyperkinetic pacing. About the only thing that pre-exists them that they can approach isStar Wars (1977). That is because this is where the rot set in. With this invention of a shameless George Lucas, movies as an entertaining art form received their first deathblow. It is no accident that the only film from the Star Wars franchise that holds up well as a film is the one that Lucas did not himself direct, The Empire Strikes Back, by Irvin Kershner. As expected, most people tend to forget that, because Lucas takes the lion’s share of credit."

I can accept not liking Star Wars, but Mark Fisher made something up so he could smugly debunk it.

It's like that shit Scott Alexander pulls with grabbing random comments from comments section as representations of social justice and blogposts from his friends as representations of right wing views.
  • iunno who mark fisher is
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Star Wars is far from perfect, but the original trilogy is fun enough.

Not sure why people have to make a big deal out of it either way

From a perspective as a heterosexual male, I don't understand the fascination either.  It's never been something worth paying much attention to.
  • From a perspective as a heterosexual male, big thighs are really fucking attractive.

I haven't had a thigh gap since I was seven, and I do love my body. But I see girls with matchstick legs and feel like an elephant.

Suppose I did do dancing and karate as a teenager, so have built up some leg muscles.

Sorry, just ramblings about shit again.

I guess I find them to be aesthetically interesting?

But the 'aesthetically interesting' category in my mind has things like arm hair and noticeable shoulder blades, so I'm not exactly a good baseline here.

I do not know what you people are talking about, and I have seen serious discussion of what a whooty is.

Well there's always imports I guess.

    The extra money sucks though.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
It was nice to see professional movie quality animation that very much wasn't the Disney house style.

i'd have to import a DVD player to play it on, also

Do you have a PS3 or Xbox 360? Or are those made differently overseas too?

DVD Region locking is almost Microsoft levels of "we're digging our feet in on this blatantly anti-consumer thing because most people will just find it easier to go along with it."

Further thought: the movie was interesting on two levels, because it's an adaptation of a good book, but also a showcase of what Chuck Jones was able to do with a movie budget and an hour and thirty minutes of runtime.

I won't be able to see the movie until Monday, but I know it's by Chuck Jones, so I'll just say this:

I’ve always been amused that Chuck Jones's style is at once a homage to and rejection of Disney.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
the PS3 is not region locked for games, but is for movies, frustratingly.

i like Hey There, It's Yogi Bear! a lot.
