You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Slate Star Codex is the worst blog on the internet, and I want fucking idiots to go find another fucking idiot to rally behind who at least isn't such a slithy quisling

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
It's not that Superman is overpowered because he hails from comics. Its that people who read comics are stupid assholes who want every dumb thing that bothers them to be addressed.
Who pumps Batman's tires? Who combs Blossom's hair? What is the Power Rangers' suits made of and why does it look like spandex?

It reminds me of a pitch once way back when where they had every possible alternate version of the heroes for toys. Atomic Superman, Savage Superman, Robot Superman.
This became hilarious when they applied it to someone like Cyborg. Robot Cyborg.
Being overpowered mostly matters in multiplayer games. It matters much less in single player games, and is a non-issue in many media, provided the narrative accomodates for it.
I think part of the complaints are based on shows like The Superfriends, where every member had to go on every mission, so you had Aquaman standing around uselessly while Green Lantern and Superman did most stuff. That's why the caveat about the narrative shaping itself around that is important.

i only watched superfriends sometimes and i barely remember it but even so i remember that superfriends was pretty dumb. come to think of it, i bet a lot of the dumbest ideas about superheroes come from the fact that superfriends was super common
i don't remember having complaints about anyone's role in, say, justice league. aquaman only showed up in a single serial, which probably helped, so he didn't feel like a useless appendage

Batman actually had an in-cave supersmart mechanic for a while named Harold, a mute hunchback. Made the wheelchair he used when he was healing from the whole Bane thing
He got killed off in Hush, which is another thing to count against Jeff Loeb. In what universe does Batman not having his own mute hunchbacked Tony Stark not sound like a great idea?
And the Powerpuff girls can get away with that because the large majority of their plots aren't based strictly around fighting, instead relying on humor.
DC has become the new Microsoft to Marvel's Apple.
It's incompetent and greedy, but the former prevents the latter from doing much damage. Marvel is competent through very careful branding and design, which means that when it gets evil, it gets really evil

Marvel (and ESPN, for that matter) strikes me as a microcosm for everything wrong with Disney, tbh
It doesn't help that prior to the sale to Disney, Marvel was at its core a chintzy brand manager, with a slick Hollywood surface
As long as the X-men and the Fantastic 4 are first to the chopping block
I understand why you don't like the X-Men (IIRC), but what about the Fantastic Four?
did I never do that rant on here?
Short version is that they're a team of boring people (Johnny, Ben) and a jerk who represents all the problems with crime fighting super geniuses (Richards). And the only decent character out of the lot, Susan, is forever shackled to their inferiority, as is Doom, who is still their traditional archenemy despite being waaaaaaay beyond their league at this point, in both power and characterization

This is not an "is it bad that" post, btw. I don't care if it's bad or not
