You know while i haven't played Spec Ops the Line, it *does* sometimes bug me how it feels like stuff that's witty and/or thought-provoking is apparently eyeroll inducing here
like i don't think i'm actually an elitist, but a lot of stuff that's supposedly just dumb and enjoyable just feels obnoxious to me, or at best kind of boring
but any time i think something's smart, now i have a nagging voice that goes 'what if you just think this is smart, but actually it's a stupid thing that assholes who THINK they're smart like so they can feel superior?'
I am literally the only person here who has a problem with SOTL and am told every time it's brought up how horrendously wrong I am for not liking such a great work of art.

"Oh no, our players can't be allowed to kill this big bad evil guy who they'll probably want to kill, because some writer in three sourcebooks down the road might need him"

I get it.
i have not played Spec Ops the Line
i know barely anything about Spec Ops the Line
i do not think Spec Ops the Line is a great work of art, although i would be open to convincing
i have never told you you are horrendously wrong for not liking Spec Ops the Line
my post was not about Spec Ops the Line, i only referenced it cuz of Tucker's thread and it reminded me of a more general thing that bothers me on HH

Good, because TORG's rules harshly discouraged kitchen sinks
I feel like this is a kitchen sink. Just that you have a bunch of bowls full of water precariously stacked on each other and they spill into each other all the time and that's fun to some folks.

I'm not doing very good at the "becoming a crazy internet trans woman" thing
I feel like I am the only person who played and enjoyed dudebro shooters, and that's why Spec Ops worked so well for me.
I just mostly felt like it was
really self-serving.
And I feel that way about a lot of "corrective" media, stuff that leads you in with a promise of X, and then tells you that you are a bad person for liking X.
That really is my core problem with the game, and several like it.

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Some worlds are careful placements of courses on a dining table.
Some are huge amounts of chopped whatever fried with rice in a big wok.
Some are a dog dish with large chunks of stuff piled high.
Some are a big table of gregarious eaters all eating different things, but food is passed around from plate-to-plate all the time.
In this analogy, I prefer eating on the kitchen countertop. You can put flan, jello, stir-fried chicken, porridge, cream of mushroom on the table and I'll eat it all. But the fridge is right there, so I can tinker with it, fry some eggs, add some spice, if I want to.
I wish people hadn't written Titanfall off out of hand because it was actually very fun and it just kind of died because no one was ever on.
It's weird, and NL has talked about this, but people expect every game to check a certain amount of tick boxes and people really just seem unwilling to give something without single-player a shot unless it's an MMO.
Even if those same people would criticize a tacked-on campaign as, well, tacked-on.

i used to think this, now i kinda don't
but it depends how you define worldbuilding, i notice i use the term more generally than most people seem to
that is about it for me on the sporting front
he thinks i can't hear him but i can and it's unsettling
like i know he's coming and i'm sat here really still wondering whether he's going to say anything
