Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I don't know what 'Freebird' sounds like. I barely remember the song when I saw that part of Kingsman, but I do remember what I felt. I thought; "Hey, that was probably unnecessary. That too. And that. And that. Now everyone is fighting. Must be because of the phones. That's pretty cool though, how Galahad fights so economically and fluidly even when totally berserk. Muscle memory. This is a pretty energetic track. Oh, that's all of them. Good fight scene."
So no, my reaction to that scene is totally different from what Hulk describes. I don't get the joke. I couldn't see them winking.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Okay, so he mentions a type of joke that doubles-down and bluntly says what everyone is thinking. For example:
"Many people are skeptical about the marriage of Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley. They say, Lisa Marie is more of a sit at home type, while Michael Jackson is more of a homosexual pedophile."
Now, in this example, say I know who Lisa Marie Presley is, I know what marriage is, but I don't know who Michael Jackson is. That's what this is like. I don't know what it's being blunt about, because I'm missing information.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I prefer honesty because I'm fucking stupid. I'm not saying Hulk thinks I'm stupid, I'm saying that I am.
When you wink, you need to telegraph it long and hard at least six months before you do it, because I'm not going to notice it otherwise. If you're going to make a joke, I need about an hour of prep time to do research to have all the pieces.
Innuendo is not useful to me. Satire, equally not useful. Every day, I think about why people can be honest with each other, but don't want to be. I don't want two meanings to make a third. I don't even want something used to mean something else, I just want the thing, placed right here, for me to understand as it is.
idk much about it, but apparently the Sun leaked footage of members of the royal family performing Hitler salutes; the royals in question were Elizabeth II (6 or 7 years old at the time, then a princess), Princess Margaret (then 3 years old) the Queen Mother and Edward VIII (then a prince).
Edward VIII having Nazi sympathies is old news; after he abdicated he and his wife met with Hitler and he often expressed Nazi views. However, in the video, it's the Queen Mother who salutes first.
The Sun used a still from this footage on their front page, with the headline 'Her Royal Heilness'. Monarchists flipped out and accused the Sun of being irresponsible and stirring up hate, and of course there have been calls to kick Murdoch out of the country since it's his paper and there's still a lot of anger at Murdoch lingering after the phone hacking scandal. The Sun, for their part, have defended the use of the footage on historical grounds, claiming it gives an insight into Edward's prejudices and how they may have influenced the family. (The Sun have of course never been interested in anything of the sort.)
The royal family aren't happy, and they claim that the video is misleading, that they were merely playing, mimicking a political gesture of the time which hadn't yet acquired its present connotations (this was before the war or the holocaust).
Part of the concern from commentators seems to be that the royal family are supposed to represent Britain, so seeing them performing a gesture like this is likely to have social consequences - handing ammunition both to neo-nazi types and enemies of the country.
First and foremost though it's a tabloid scandal and i don't know what, if anything, will come of it. Maybe something big will happen, who knows? It's only been a few hours.
Although honestly i would guess not. The only person in that video who is still alive is the Queen, and i would think most people would know better than to attribute deep political import to 6 year olds mimicking their parents.
It probably is. Most of the discussion of this i can find is on fairly sensational sites, plus twitter.
i guess one potential implication here is that if the Queen Mother had nazi sympathies it's possible her husband, George VI, also held similar views. There has been speculation about this, in part because of his brother, and in part because at one point the UK government maintained a cap on the amount of Jewish immigration to Palestine, a policy which George apparently supported. (This policy was, at least in part, pursued for diplomatic reasons, out of fear of upsetting the Arab population.)
George VI and his wife are usually thought of as civilian heroes, who represented British endurance in the face of the London Blitz. So this could be bad news for his historical reputation, potentially.
OTOH we've had tons of dirt on Churchill since forever and he's still admired by many (to the point where suggesting he wasn't so great makes you look unpatriotic). So maybe this will stick, maybe it won't. George wasn't even in the vid, so this is pretty speculative.
It's about a butler recounting his career. and he spends a lot of time talking about rumors about his former employer that he claims are completely groundless, and eventually you start to realize he worked for a nazi sympathizer who supported people like Moseley and Ribbentrop and never spoke up or allowed others to speak up because he thought it would be insubordination.

Hm.
Well, i hope this isn't like that, but it could be.
Math Nerds have made me understand that some people feel every attempt to bring up the politics of art is an attempt by Big Mean Farmer Progressivism to bulldoze The Meadow Of Free Speech For Outcasts and replace it with Farmer Progressivism's Gulag Farm
I was having a pretty good day until I saw this shit.
And now I want everything to drown. Fuck them for making me look at this with my own two eyes. Damn my eyes.
i remember when someone posted something a line like that on twitter and Magenta and co. basically took the piss out of it with posts tagged #GaimerGate

Starting a forum for our dorm was the best idea I've had! Now I can keep in touch with my fellow students and lecture them for not bowing down to their Princess!

Not sure why, as I'm pretty sure that they looked completely different from each other, but still.

Of course, it's all Piccolo's fault.
