I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
So the "Challenge: Mission 5" theme from Sonic Generations turns out to be based on "You're My Hero" from the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast. I thought it sounded 90s!
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
It took me fifty dollars, four hours, and a shitload of dirty dishes, but I finally cooked and ate a big pot of double-meat spaghetti beef-lamb bolognese.
Bored at the office, decided to type "nes ppu tms9918" into the Google for giggles.
It seems that you can type pretty much anything into Google these days and find people fighting over it. I think it's pretty clear, myself, having had NESDEV and the 9918 data sheet open side-by-side -- they're not exactly the same (some of the registers are switched around, and Nintendo made some changes so they could do more than 16 colors), but the basic theory of operation is the same. Tiles ("patterns" in TI-speak) are the basic graphics unit, sprites and backgrounds are made of tiles, and the PPU renders them for you.
The biggest innovation was probably putting the VRAM bus on the cartridge slot so that the CHR-ROM could plug right in; that way the CPU doesn't have to move the tiles in and out of VRAM itself.
in any case, though, I read flame wars because I'm curious about people's motives, and in this case, it appears to be a Nintendo-versus-Sega proxy skirmish. :P "Nintendo couldn't possibly have used the TMS9918 because ICKY BAD SEGA DID WAHHHH", basically.
