Here's something that'll screw with your head.

Let's say you work a 12-hour shift. You start at a certain hour AM and quit at a certain hour PM.

For example, let's say you start at 6 AM and end at 6 PM. The halfway point of your shift will, of course, be 12 noon.

But what if you work 12 AM to 12 PM? Then noon isn't the midpoint of your shift anymore. How did that happen?

    Calm down, Kex.

We've done this too many times for you to still be surprised.

"Overrated" is legitimately my least favorite criticism

Literally all it means is "everyone but me is wrong."

    Surely "underrated" also means this.
Underrated usually means overlooked. Less accusation there.

They both essentially mean "my opinion differs from the common consensus".

...but if you start at 7 and you end at 7 12 is not the midpoint, 1 is. and if you start at 8 and you end at 8 2 is.
  • you have performed a mathematical mistep
  • unless that was the joke?

Damn, you're too smart for me. I was hoping that I could phrase it in a confusing enough manner as to fool somebody. :P

The white supremacist belief that Marxists are the secret masters of almost all spheres of politics and academia is pretty funny, given every Marxist's firm belief that every other Marxist is a neoliberal idiot stooge who is gallopingly incompetent.

Basically I was trying to get you (a generic 'you', not 'you Emile the Cat') all confused by using the specific example of 6 AM to 6 PM (where the midpoint happens to be 12) and implying (but not outright stating) that this was true for other examples

I figured it would be entertaining to see how long it took for someone to pick up on my trickery, and you did, so...mission accomplished!

"From watching Great British Bakeoff, I have learned that the British expectation of a cake is different from the American one. In fact, one challenge had the contestants making “American-style cakes”, which they interpreted as “very sweet”.

A lot of classic British cakes, like the Victoria sponge, aren’t frosted at all. The Victoria sponge is two layers of sponge cake with whipped cream, strawberry jam, and fresh strawberries between them. That’s it."

    Oh well that explains that

I still maintain that the way he described it was fucking gross. I'd eat a Victoria sponge cake though.

  • anyway while I was walking up to the office someone driving by in a truck called me a "fag hick" which is an interesting thing to just shout at someone you don't know.

They might've been drunk, it wouldn't shock me up here.

Also the office itself had a bunch of spiders chilling out on its roof again, they need to set off some foggers or something.
  • a fag hick

what an odd combination to use in an insult
  • I was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans which is again not really something I associate with either of those stereotypes.

So if you tell someone you like them and you politely get rejected, and a few days later you see that person go all; "This other person should date me," is it appropriate to say; "Yes, they should totally date you."

Ender's Game is actually the greatest work of fiction of all times, people just pretend it isn't because the author is an idiot homophobe bigot.
  • its actually pretty bleh imo
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i know it's a very popular book which a lot of people liked very much

i have never read it, though, and knowing that about the author makes me feel disinclined to
  • it's got revenge/cruel power fantasy overtones that gross me out tbh
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I abstain from ever reading Ender's Game on the grounds that Orson Scott Card has proven himself to be such a total asshole that I don't feel like I could give the book an honest shake on its own merits.

Mind you, the same people who say that probably read Lovecraft.

Although HPL isn't alive to benefit from his fiction anymore.
