What happens is that neo-nazi ideas get filtered through reactionaries, which in turn gets filtered into math nerds, and the process is a good way of making fascism palatable to idiots, politicians, and Sillicon Valley.

that's basically what i meant by 'neoreactionaries'
as opposed to the regular, non-tech obsessed variety of reactionary
i guess i feel it's unlikely that most math nerds are really covert fascists using mathy words to hide their political biases
i feel it's more likely that there exists a spectrum ranging from people who are not racist who join the communities out of a genuine interest in math and tech, through people who are just rather ignorant and unconsciously absorb racist ideas from the community because they are bad at critical thought and easily swayed by a certain type of rhetoric, through to people who are outright fascist but pretend not to be, and finally the neoreactionaries at the extreme end of things

Math Nerds aren't interested in math and tech. They're interested in jerking off about how sjw don't understand that statistics proves cthulhu. Math and tech is just a background.
also i guess i'm just really confused at this point? because you specifically said it was "all math nerds" and that by definition has to include people who really genuinely like math

i have always considered geek and nerd to be near-synonyms
and i mean i'm confused in general about this
like that one time we were talking about Lewis Carroll and i copypasted the first Knot from A Tangled Tale and you responded with that gross Mask clip, what was that about?

I just thought it was really gross, and I was in a silly mood, so I posted it in places where it wasn't appropriate.

i can see a certain appeal in self-improvement and in learning about science and cognitive biases for free without university study. i think most people assume 'rationality' is by default a good thing, so a community dedicated to it sounds quite innocuous if you know nothing else about it and have no experience with academia.

They want self improvement and universal knowlege without ever having to deal with things they don't like. It's childish and contemptible.

Fair enough.
Self improvement and universal knowledge without ever having to deal with things i don't like sounds pretty great to me, but i never said i wasn't childish.
Converting real time to in-game time is fun. 3 minutes is one FFXIV hour, meaning most dungeons average 5-7 hours in length, and the battle against Bahamut Prime was over 4 hours long. Also Bahamut's heart is radioactive so we're all probably slowly dying of poisoning. Oh well!
One Sunday morn young Lambton went A-fishing' in the Wear; An' catched a fish upon he's heuk, He thowt leuk't varry queer. But whatt'n a kind of fish it was Young Lambton cuddent tell. He waddn't fash te carry'd hyem, So he hoyed it doon a well.
cho: Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs, An Aa'll tell ye's aall an aaful story Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs, An' Aa'll tell ye 'boot the worm.
Noo Lambton felt inclined te gan An' fight i' foreign wars. he joined a troop o' Knights that cared For nowther woonds nor scars, An' off he went te Palestine Where queer things him befel, An' varry seun forgat aboot The queer worm i' the well.
But the worm got fat an' growed and' growed An' growed an aaful size; He'd greet big teeth, a greet big gob, An' greet big goggle eyes. An' when at neets he craaled aboot Te pick up bits o' news, If he felt dry upon the road, He milked a dozen coos.
This feorful worm wad often feed On caalves an' lambs an' sheep, An' swally little barins alive When they laid doon te sleep. An' when he'd eaten aall he cud An' he had had he's fill, He craaled away an' lapped he's tail Seven times roond Pensher Hill.
The news of this myest aaful worm An' his queer gannins on Seun crossed the seas, gat te the ears Ov brave and' bowld Sor John. So hyem he cam an' catched the beast An' cut 'im in twe haalves, An' that seun stopped he's eatin' bairns, An' sheep an' lambs and caalves.
So noo ye knaa hoo aall the foaks On byeth sides ov the Wear Lost lots o' sheep an' lots o' sleep An' leeved i' mortal feor. So let's hev one te brave Sor John That kept the bairns frae harm, Saved coos an' caalves by myekin' haalves O' the famis Lambton Worm.
Final Chorus
Noo lads, Aa'll haad me gob, That's aall Aa knaa aboot the story Ov Sor John's clivvor job Wi' the aaful Lambton Worm.

the neoreactionaries i've seen have been basically math nerds who support fascism so i have difficulty seeing how math nerds in general can be worse

Tat is what lead me to thinking everyone here was goons.

i mean OK you found those risible, fair enough, but 'racism' wasn't one of the reasons
oh ok

becoming the closest possible human approximation of a rational Ubermensch seems marginally more attainable however

Universal knowledge + 'never having to deal with things i don't like' is contradictory, i think
New haircut?
