I was saying "irrational grudge" because Jane started disliking it because she was told to skip around like people told Linkara to. You are probably right that I was a bit too sharp there, though.
I still stand by my bafflement at people who tell other people to skip around in Homestuck, though, because in my experience that just leads to people disliking the comic. Jane was just the first example that came to mind.
I've actually tried both approaches and found the comic really uninteresting both times.
That was years ago so I might feel different now, but also Peak Homestuck was a long time ago and it doesn't seem like something I'd be into on its own merits, so there's not much a reason nowadays.
i'd rather not let annoying fandoms spoil my potential enjoyment of something.
As for Kamina . . . he's cool, even noble in some respects, but at other points he can be pretty tiresome tbh (particularly the start of episode 4 and the director's cut of episode 6; and then there's the bit in ep 5 where he's sniffy about getting served a small meal by an obviously starving village).
He's not the glorious paragon of awesomeness that some people apparently think he is; i'm unconvinced he's even supposed to be taken quite that way.

oh yeah, when you put it that way, if he was specifically being paid to read a particular act
if he wanted to start from the beginning he should have done it in his own time, in that case
apparently the person who sponsored the review wanted a single act, but didn't specify which one, so i can't fault him for choosing the first one, i suppose
that said, having now watched the entire video, it's less painful than i feared...in part because he seems to have the reaction of someone who's picking up homestuck for the first time and finding it interesting instead of the "this sucks because X" lecture I was expecting
It's so in character for Walmart to react to a mass shooting not by refusing to sell guns, but refusing to sell Confederate flags. The perfect empty gesture to pretend they care about something other than money.
As someone who lives in an area where Walmart does move a lot of Confederate merchandise, I wouldn't call it completely empty.

I think it helps that he understands the text adventure style that Homestuck was aping early on, and thus, understands that any flaws it had early on need to be viewed through that lens.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
well quite frankly it's troubling to me in general that there is more of an emphasis on the fucking flag and not the fact that nine people are dead and how we stop this kind of shit from happening all the time

Ultimately though I'd say the responsibility for the flag overshadowing the issue lies on the shoulders of the people whose initial reaction to Charleston was getting defensive over it.

sometimes it makes no sense to me that girls exist and i'm not one
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Like the characters are nice or whatever? But that's not why I keep coming back to it.
I keep coming back to it because I had never seen legit demon-god mecha like this before, cartoony and expressive, and now I'm hooked and I just want more like it.
