Wicked's crime was that it was aggressively grimdarker and whatever the sex-equivalent of grimdarker is (hotsexier? hotsexier). It reads a lot like published fanfiction, even. Which it is.
The World of Oz does not like attempts to make it serious. Imagine if Phantom Tollbooth had Humbug hire whores at every stop or, well, the latest Alice in wonderland movie, and you'll get what I mean.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Is it stupid of me to make the version of Gruteley that appears in 101 Dalmatians: The Series an increasingly desolate stereotypically Southern shithole populated mostly by idiots?
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
PURITY THOUGHTS are eating at me again for the first time in a while
Because Windows 8.1 doesn't enable the mouse cursor shadow by default and I enabled it in the Mouse settings and now I'm worried that my computer is IMPURE for not having a 100% default appearance

You know people give MovieBob shit for his nostalgizing but he contextualizes it in an interesting way; he agrees that gaming is "better" than it was when he was a kid, but they simply aren't pushing against limitations like they used to.
my current default answer is prolly house of leaves
idk it should probably be harry potter, i dont recall ever obsessing over any other book series to the extent that i obsessed over those
but that feels like a wrong answer, one that invites negative judgement
thing is i like that series in spite of by this point being conscious of its numerous flaws
and if i think it has numerous flaws it cant be my fave can it?
Nope. Sometimes flaws just mean a work is so damn big and ambitious that flaws just sorta ended up being inevitable.
Sometimes a thing is your favorite just because it resonated on some deep fundamental level and that's perfectly valid. Besides, Harry Potter *is* a good series, quibbles and all. There's a reason people still talk about it vigorously eight years after its conclusion.
i think the reason i like harry potter so much is that i had read few good books at the time i read it, and it was written with people my age in mind and grounded in a uk culture thats familiar to me
There's a difference between appealing to the Id and being genuinely good, surely. I mean, I'm capable of finding commercials to be well made but since they're founded on being, essentially, trickery I wouldn't consider *any* commercial good.
I don't think the same applies to Harry Potter, though. I think it engaged with interesting ideas in an accessible way and regardless of flaws in internal logic or the treatment of Slytherin- the latter being a pretty big flaw, admittedly- and that really isn't undone.
garden of forking paths is a good one. also the one with the weird ritual is good, tho i don't remember much about it because its been a few years since i read it
I don't think much good can come of assuming personal taste is wrong or invalid just because it tends towards comfort food type stuff
Awareness is fine but the angle should to be understanding why it resonates and what can be learned from that rather than "I like this because I'm wrong"
Twilight was popular but judging by the fact that no one seems to particularly give a shit about it nowadays I don't think it ever truly resonated so much as appealed to certain unfortunate ideas about relationships.
On the flipside, uh, pick a cult classic, any of 'em
well i didn't say 'i like this because im wrong' just that id have reservations about calling it my fave
i suppose i did say it was the wrong answer to what's my fave book
w/e tho
I'm just saying you should have more confidence in your gut opinion. Favorite things are personal. You don't have to force it to be something "better" because all "favorite" implies is how much something appealed to you.
Like I fully acknowledge that Zelda isn't the best series ever made but damned if it isn't my favorite. I have reasons why it is appeals to me personally and by the same token it's not regressive or anything like that so I don't really have to justify it.

there is still a massive market for "paranormal romance" fiction. twilight basically kick started a whole new genre which is very much still going. something certainly 'resonated' there
I think the relative interchangability of its imitators kinda proves my point; there was a market for this kind of stuff, certainly, but none of it really lasts.

The musical seems fun, though.

but id rather not have this argument
