You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
...You know, JZ, my mental image of you as a kid is Junie B. Jones.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
CA, it's probably to make the thing look more constructed. The channel's current on-air look looks rather constructed as well; they also have a new version of the original logo.
The type of stuff they show like Chowder, etc. really aren't Kid-Friendly at all. I mean, it's not beyond terrible, but it's a faux rating of TV-Y7. Apparently inappropriate jokes are "for kids". But eh.
CN has started to skew older recently and I think Chowder and Flapjack are where that trend started, so I actually thank them for that.
But yeah, they're not really appropriate for smaller children. 12 and up, maybe. But not your 7 and 8 year olds.
Relatedly, I never saw Ren & Stimpy as a kid, and when I did see a few episodes later in life, I didn't like it.

My mother banned Ren & Stimpy in our house when I was a kid, though to this day I don't actually know why.
I think those cartoons are not appropriate for kids, not really morally, but many times they don't get the joke. I really think parents should watch the cartoons with their kids and gage what they think their child can take. Talk it over with them etc. But, I highly doubt many parents would do that.
Ren & Stimpy is even more insane when I see it as an adlut.
John K. has strict expectations for cartoons; one of them being as insane as possible to take advantage of the medium.
Recently, I have been rewatching old Superhero cartoons from my youth. I forgot how good Spider-man: The Animated Series was. The main thing I remember as a kid from that show was Venom and the arc where Spider-man gets transformed into a spider monster.

I used to not really think the Games episodes were all that bad, though I know why people dislike them compared to the Spumco ones (they lack nuance and the animation isn't as good, though this era did produce episodes like "Hermit Ren" which feel rather Spumco-esque or at least trying-too-hard-to-be-Spumco).
Ren & Stimpy was extremely gross. Funny(to me), but is not for kids at all. Spongebob Squarepants is also not for Kids either. Don't kid yourself in thinking that.
Anyway.
@Super Lazuli: It's not that I thought they were bad shows. I just don't think it's good television or should be on when kids could see them. Many adults think cartoons are for children, and if it's not on Adult Swim, they totally can watch it. This is sadly true.
Given the choice, I'd remove all of those for somewhat more reasonable television likes the Looney Tunes show that's atleast not gross-out, or keep it to stop like the good Anime and Animesque shows.
Personally, I consider it the fault of inattentive parents if their children end up watching something they find offensive. Put parental controls on your TV, it's not hard.
I am not a big believer in family friendliness, so..I am biased here, obviously.
Cartoons have never been "just for children". Why a lot of people still think they all are is utterly baffling to me.
Venom is pretty boss. My only problem with the animated show is that it had major censorship so when carnage came along they had to use inter-dimensional magics to make his murder spree less murdery.
It's an assumption that people make, though. It leads to bad parenting, and kids thinking they're okay to watch. The ratings are also based upon this too.
I didn't read too many books as a kid. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, the Narnia series and some Star Trek novels are all I can remember.
I didn't become a serious reader until my mid-teens. Kinda regret not doing it sooner.

The solution to fixing that problem isn't to cater to that assumption, though. That'll just make it worse.
And again, it's on the parents' head if that happens. Not the cartoons'.
I was never a big fan of Carnage anyway. The only reason he showed up (in the comics at least) was because they had written themselves into a corner with Venom and made him an anti-hero, so they needed someone more threatening to take his place.
The problem with that, though, is that Carnage is just some crazy dude. His whole motivation is "I wanna kill people." He lacks the personal connection to Spider-Man that made Venom such a compelling villain in the first place.

Personally, I have little sympathy for parents who whine about their children having been exposed to inappropriate TV shows, cartoon or otherwise. Monitoring and controlling what your kid watches is your responsibility as a parent, not the responsibility of the networks.
Mother didn't let me watch a few cartoons when I was very young. Aah! Real Monsters! was one of them, and another was The Addams Family. She also disapproved of Courage the Cowardly Dog, but she eventually got over that.
Man, the Italics button is annoying on this thing.
I am not a big believer in "THIS is what you should show at THIS time of day, and not THIS, which should be shown at THAT time of day" and stuff like that.
I consider "inappropriate" to be "walking into your office wearing a banana costume" not "Mordecai saying 'pissed'", you see.
Yeah, because parents have unlimited quantities of time on their hands, fuck them for expecting to be able to set their kids down in front of the TV while they do something and expect it to be inoffensive.
Serves them right for expecting decent content on the Saturday morning cartoons.

CA: Wellllll...in some ways. I was pretty energetic. Though, in public, I was a very shy and reserved kid. Mostly.
Ren & Stimpy is even more insane when I see it as an adlut.
I probably wouldn't think it's funny now.

I don't agree with John's expectations, which is the thing.
I can deal with shitty animation if what I'm watching is funny/interesting/whatever.
Mom said she made dinner. Dinner? You call what you make dinner? I'd rather eat the wall than that shit!
You can only watch so many Looney Tunes.

Cartoons and comic books were part of my childhood.
Gummy obviously transported the symbiote to earth
Incidentally, if anything had a negative impact on me at a young age, it was the books I read.
Reading....what was it called, Jacob? Pretty much turned me into a hardcore antitheist for awhile.

Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead

Define "appropriate".

I was monitored pretty consistently despite being raised by a single mother with a 9-5.
Little things called "family", "daycare", and so on.
Televisions are not babysitters. And it's not like it takes more than ten minutes to check a TV schedule anyway.
Furthermore, nothing being discussed here actually is saturday morning. That's mostly action shows like Ben 10 nowadays.
