Actually, there's a reason Courier New is REQUIRED BY MAJOR STUDIOS as part of the proper formatting for a screenplay. When Courier New 12 point (10 pitch) is used with the proper margins according to standard screenplay formatting, studios figure that one page, on average, will equal one minute of screen time. So if your screenplay is properly formatted, including the use of Courier New, and it's 90 pages, then they figure that they're looking at movie with a running time of approximately 90 minutes, plus credits. It's not so you look like a serious screenwriter, and it doesn't make people think you're pretending to use a typewriter. That's why screenwriting software defaults to that font. Only an idiot would use anything else for screenplays.
