You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
"Your Highness, why did you buy that abandoned Wal-Mart?"
"Duh! It's the perfect size for my new indoor playground!"
You know, I don't think I've ever seen any series get worse treatment for "tangible details" criticisms (ie noticing an underlying problem but blaming it on a obvious but superficial element of the work) than Final Fantasy.
Like honestly this, for example, is a decent character design- certainly memorable, if a bit unfocused- but for whatever reason it seems to catch all the "shitty JRPG outfits" flak even though this exists
And honestly the latter is almost charming in its overdesign-edness. Being overdesigned isn't necessarily an issue, but a lack of focus is. Like, Tidus's outfit is part of what makes him memorable, and it makes sense within the context of the world he's living in. Meanwhile, take a character like Lightning whose outfit may be less egregiously overdesigned but has absolutely no purpose and says nothing about the character at all.
And then there's the cutscene issue; but nobody complains that Telltale's games or Mass Effect or visual novels do essentially the same thing.
People complain about cutscenes because there are underlying story issues highlighted by the cutscenes (namely, spectacle at the cost of everything) but the cutscenes themselves are merely a tangible thing to grasp at.

I've heard complaining about Telltale overdoing that, actually.
