Sometimes I feel weird reading about people talking about how 2D animation is dying because Disney's feature animation wing and others don't do it anymore
And I feel weird sitting right here because if I were so inclined, I'd rather make the next "Duck Amuck" than the next Beauty and the Beast

2D animation is not dying.
Traditional hand-drawn 2D animation (a much narrower category) is already mostly dead (s/o Sazae-san), but other than that, nah.

I do miss hand-drawn at times (MGM's animation department was boss) but I know it's gone mainly because the industry feels it to be too expensive
one of the sad things about that as well: the backgrounds from those Mickey Mouse shorts are probably digital so I can't hang the originals on my walls someday! Maybe when our generation's cartoons become marketable nostalgia fodder we'll see BGs from like The Powerpuff Girls show up on auction sites and such
