Rambling isn't a bad thing, though, as long as it's done somewhere appropriate.

Hmm...that's a tough one.
Part of me wants to say Columbia, but I'm not sure why.

Funny, I keep picturing them as ponies. Columbia as a female unicorn (whose cutie mark is probably based on the 1976 sunburst logo) and TriStar as a pegasus whose sex shifts in my head (and whose cutie mark is a triangle).

Aw, you were supposed to keep insulting the ponies so I could use more pony reaction videos!

...That connection is tenuous at best, and yet it's the only logical explanation.

They went back to this the next year, completely ignoring that the sheen makes it look tacky and Eurostile doesn't go with it like ITC Avant Garde Gothic did:

I kinda wonder if there was ever a time when sheen/gloss/other such effects didn't make things look tacky.
I mean, why do/did so many designers think that stuff is necessary?

This here is that logotype's debut appearance. Early on it was prefaced with an "MGM/UA Communications Co." logo that also got affixed to MGM's lion logo (as the two were merged together after Ted Turner sold UA and MGM's trademarks back to Kirk Kerkorian, who has a historic inability to run either MGM or UA competently), however, later on the first few seconds got edited out after the MGM/UA Communications logo was dropped:

For some reason my first thought was to want to hold that as a physical object.

I've watched it twice now, and both times my mind seems to want it to keep rotating past where it does.

It fears it.
Even though when you get to know it it's really a nice monogram. (It was the first "real" logo they used after Transamerica sold the studio to MGM; before then it was just the wordmark. It's very likely that without UA's intellectual properties, both studios would be dead by now. Remember, most of MGM's most cherished properties are now in the hands of Time Warner, who is probably very glad to have them.)

You know, every once in a while I'm tempted to say "How do you even know all this?", but then I start thinking about all the stuff I know that I get that question for.

But also kidding.
...What will our soda be called
(I'm doing this because, to be honest, I enjoy the reaction videos)
This could be the purchase that makes or breaks the company.
Alternately, drop the BS and buy Summit. Less expensive, quite reliable.
It's clearly too cool for your lowest-common-denominator tastes.
To me it looks more like U\

You'll notice it looks better here.
It's the spruced-up version of this weird thing:
Weird.

Also, for some reason I'm craving Lackadaisy now.
