most of GG only gained a sudden interest in protecting the sanctity of gaming when they learned that there were women critiquing it from a feminist perspective.

it was always about whining about sjws
  • See that's the thing, right?

I'd be totally willing to give these mythical reasonable people who are only into the GamerGate movement out of ignorance a chance if I ever met any of them, but I haven't.

Anyway, the actual dumbest news in gaming right now is that one of the pro DOTA 2 teams is getting a YouPorn sponsorship.

    eSports everybody!

Oh, this happens, i'm not for a moment disputing it.

But then that person should be called out, i think. Not ostracized, not condemned forever for being a horribly problematic person, but definitely informed that what they're saying is not OK.

And it's also perfectly reasonable to inform other people of what they think on the matter, so that they can have this in mind when considering this person's other opinions.

@calica Oh yes, that is common knowledge.

add in the harrassment (which has disproportionately and overwhelmingly been directed at women) and there really is no reason to consider it anything more than a misogynist movement
  • Do you honestly think that anyone here is not more than amply aware of these things?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i am honestly not sure.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i don't doubt that you are aware of these things, you've made that quite clear.
  • I for one would be fine if we could just stop with the offhand mocking comments about SJWs that sometimes appear here for no real reason.

    Yeah, this. Precisely this.
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
"sjw" is the new "politically correct"
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Like I said before, I was with Gamergate until I realized they don't even score.
  • My left eye seems really gunky today.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
There are actual women in Gamergate. I've seen them. Say what you want, but it started as an actual cause. I stopped caring before long but still, I hate seeing people get whitewashed like that.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I'm aware it has manifested itself mainly as misogyny, and that is unfortunate and why I frown upon it.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
it started as a harrassment campaign against a woman for cheating on her ex

    not an actual cause

some people were misguided enough to think it was an actual cause, but that's not the same thing

and the reason people were misled was because gamergaters kept alleging ethical violations which never took place
  • can we talk about something else please

can we talk about something else please

    Actually, I should do this.

i don't want to drop this, this is important and Miko has not changed her opinion

    but whatever

i'll stay shut up about this if everyone else does
  • also can Youtube stop showing me commercials for a Nexus gadget that are inexplicably set to old f
  • edited 2014-12-16 10:04:24

no we are trapped within the (gamer)gates of hell where even the tiniest mention of something that might involve ganergate provokes a precise reiteration of things we all know by now like some damned infernal clockwork torture device that scoops out your eyeballs in a promethian manner at 12 hour intervals

I understand that but we've had this conversation like six times and no one's changed their mind, at a certain point it becomes not worth it
  • everyone must be right or the kingdom of god cannot unfold

there was more to this post but it died somewhere between me typing it and it being posted.
  • youtube has been showing me lame commercials that i forget lately
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
If I knew it was one of *those* topics here (I guess it is?) I would have started ignoring it by now.
  • it seems to be one of them unfortunately

    look

i don't like when people think things that are very very bad

i don't like talking to people knowing they think those things, i don't like hanging out around people who think those things can be tolerated, i don't like having to accept that sometimes people i like say things that (pointless disclaimer: i think) are repulsive and that only bad people should think

i get angry and i can't think of anything else

maybe this is just my problem

regardless i should go elsewhere for now

more important than this anti-SJ circlejerk is that I can now build textile manufactories
  • There is no want of power in God to cast wicked men into hell at any moment. Men's hands cannot be strong when God rises up. The strongest have no power to resist him, nor can any deliver out of his hands. -- He is not only able to cast wicked men into hell, but he can most easily do it. Sometimes an earthly prince meets with a great deal of difficulty to subdue a rebel, who has found means to fortify himself, and has made himself strong by the numbers of his followers. But it is not so with God. There is no fortress that is any defence from the power of God. Though hand join in hand, and vast multitudes of God's enemies combine and associate themselves, they are easily broken in pieces. They are as great heaps of light chaff before the whirlwind; or large quantities of dry stubble before devouring flames. We find it easy to tread on and crush a worm that we see crawling on the earth; so it is easy for us to cut or singe a slender thread that any thing hangs by: thus easy is it for God, when he pleases, to cast his enemies down to hell. What are we, that we should think to stand before him, at whose rebuke the earth trembles, and before whom the rocks are thrown down?
