But the works themselves can be enjoyed in culture-neutral ways.
Or -- if you feel culture-neutrality doesn't exist -- in ways that are meaningful to other cultures.
And is there something wrong with finding meaning in a J-pop song via using the same musical "vocabulary" as I'd use to find meaning in a traditional Christian hymn?
I don't see any problem with doing so.

Japanese is a tangible descriptive quality, like "hard" or "blue" or "edible".
