I have a tiny amount of control over my dreams. Sometimes it's like directing a film, other times like I'm acting out a scenario, and yet others like I am a character or the camera.

See, the fun thing about dreams is that THERE ARE NO RULES
Wanna lock a door but don't have a key? There, it's locked because I want it to be. It's my dream, I don't have to explain it.
That's a rather mundane example, but still, lucid dreaming is effectively the closest I'll ever get to literal omnipotence.
The problem is that I can change things or make things happen, but my subconscious just wanders on from one thing to the next so it can be a bit like swimming against the tide. I need to figure out how to marshal these things better.

Retraction:
A while back I made a crack about "SuperSU" being redundant name because "su" already stands for "superuser".
It doesn't. It stands for "substitute user", but is designed to switch to the root user by default.

I've known you for like four years and it's still incomprehensible to me, so... :P
my dreams seem to work on the logic that if i want something, it will not happen.
So if i realize i'm dreaming and try to control it, there's always this feeling of dread in the back of my mind, like, 'what if i can't control it?' And this feeling is usually vindicated because at that point something really uncomfortable or gruesome tends to happen, and wishing it away never works.
Oh, the other feeling i often get is 'it would suck if [absolute worst thing that could happen under the circumstances at hand] happened, and unfortunately, since this is a dream, it probably will now i've thought that'.

See, usually if things get bad enough, I can just choose to wake up
Like I had a dream a couple weeks ago where I was being robbed at gunpoint and I was like "aw HELL no, wakey wakey time please"

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I'm starting to resent that Disney bought Marvel and Lucasfilm. Not because I want to own them, but because the modern Disney Consumer Products only seems to care about a handful of things: Mickey and pals, the Disney Princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, Cars, Marvel, and Star Wars.

Congratulations, next poster! You've won me adding "Weston Chandler" to the end of your username for a year!
i envy the amount of control you evidently have over these things.
Same. I don't think I've ever been able to control my dreams. The closest thing I've experienced is where I'd wake up, go "that was a cool dream, I wanted to see what happened next" and then when I go to sleep the next night, my dream picked up from where it left off. That's only happened a few times though.
And just so you know, I seem to be most cognisant of that I am dreaming when my dreams are really weird or awkward, and sometimes that awareness or control amounts to my inner monologue saying, "I would rather that happen differently," or, "I need to leave now," and it doesn't always work.

What good is having five days off from college in a row if you don't COMPLETELY WRECK YOUR SLEEP PATTERNS by staying up all night? :D

Oh my god, Karen, you can't just ask people why they're white!

You know what holiday tradition I never really understood? The "kids' table".
Like, I guess it makes sense if your normal dining table isn't big enough for everyone to eat, but in our family, everyone just crowds around a single table, kids and adults alike.

After which it almost invariably does.
There are ways to train your mind to allow you greater control over your dreams, but I cannot recall any at the moment. It can be learned.
My dreams are rarely particularly normal, though.
^ I have heard that. I should try it.
It didn't last
Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
Also it's weird to see Jack Nance play a thug after basically being sweet old man incarnate in Twin Peaks.
it pains me
It suck, doesn't it? But when you remember it and write it down every once in a while, it's a great feeling.
Which makes me wonder whether they are really tunes at all, or whether i only imagine that i'm hearing music.
