"No non-instrumental song ever should be more than seven minutes long unless it is black metal. This fact is even more true when half of the words are in do-do-wah-wah language."
Y'know, I read some of the guy who wrote that earlier piece's other stuff, and he seems OK—any man that passionate about Shostakovich that isn't Stalin is a man after my own heart—but this guy just pisses me off from the outset for reasons I find difficult to articulate.

whenever people talk about vice it's weird because i mostly hear about them reporting on various wars, and well
Vice are great when they're talking about serious subjects but really uneven—or rather, consistent in a very frustrating way—when not doing that investigative journalism thing. It's like most of their writers really want to be Hunter S. Thompson, but only some of them come anywhere close to nailing that ideal.

Had to go pick my sister up from school because their power was out
Seems a bit pointless to me, but apparently they're not allowed to keep kids when there's no electricity

It just seems weird to me that modern society treats electricity as a necessity instead of a luxury
Schools existed for centuries without electricity...what's so hard about getting some students in a classroom with books and a blackboard?
Consider that a lot of schools have rooms with few or no windows, lit almost entirely by electricity. Now take into account the kinds of accidents that can occur in completely dark rooms, or in the absence of outside communication under certain circumstances. School districts cannot be liable for these things.

See, that's kinda my point, though. If you have a school building designed in such a way that it can't be adequately lit by natural lighting, it's because you've built it with the assumption that electricity will always be available, which seems like a really stupid thing to do.

That's a fair point, but the problem of security and liability still comes into play. Even if the school were physically designed to operate in the absence of electricity, you would still have issues stemming from that lack of electricity that you could not deal with so easily that would be unlikely to have come up one hundred years ago.
