People were suing corporations long before anyone took corporate personhood seriously.
never heard of that, what's a case?
I probably should have rephrased that.
The idea that corporations have the same right to create and enforce contracts as persons—and thus may be sued like persons—goes back to the establishment of private corporations as an institution in the early 19th century, but the whole idea that they have other rights as "persons" is a lot newer than that. Furthermore, other countries lack this whole corporate personhood concept inasmuch as they basically stop at "corporations can make and be bound by contracts" and filing suit is not a problem.
This whole idea that corporations have to be afforded rights as persons to be under contract or sued strikes me as a very American notion, and kind of a stupid one.

The Dartmouth decision was thus: "The opinion of the Court, after mature deliberation, is that this corporate charter is a contract, the obligation of which cannot be impaired without violating the Constitution of the United States. This opinion appears to us to be equally supported by reason, and by the former decisions of this Court."
To me, this does not imply that corporations are people, but that they are groups of people acting collectively under an agreed upon contract. Totally different thing.

Bill Clinton is to blame for my life being as crappy as it is
Hey Odradek, just curious, why do you call the people/philosophers/philosophizers/[insert right term here] that you don't like "math nerds", despite (if I recall correctly) them not actually being math nerds? Like, is it a running joke/meme/thingy that I just don't know about?

If the battery in my phone ran down quickly enough that I couldn't get to a building or car in time to charge it, I'd be more likely to purchase a new battery, myself
the irony about my relationship with FPSes is that now that TF2 opened up my willingness to try FPSes, Portal had to reveal to me that playing them gives me headaches
(to be exactly, it isn't actually TF2 and Portal this specifically, but they're handy to cite in a quotable line)
