The roller coaster game isn't as good at Disney as it could be.
Space Mountain's exemplary, but you'll be risking so, so much whiplash. The other two mountains are alright, at best. The Aerosmith ride doesn't have much going for it besides sheer acceleration (which, to be fair, is actually pretty cool).
Busch Gardens has the best rollercoasters in high quantity in the area, but it's the only decent thing in the park, and they know it. No sense of spirit at all in that place.
Islands of Adventure has the best selection to quality ratio. The Hulk is a beast, hands down, and they have TWO log flumes. Be careful of the Popeye themed barge ride though. Everything you own will be soaked. Not wet. Soaked. My shoes got the brunt of it the first time, and they stank every day after that until I threw them out. Bring a swimsuit, or plastic shoes. Yes, I am, in this one instance, suggesting Crocs.
The second time we went to Islands, one of the shows were cancelled, after we walked halfway across the park to see it. The attendant gave us a free ticket to another ride of our choice, which ended up being the Jurassic Park ride, which is good.
You know what's good? The Spider-Man ride. Best simulation ride outside of Epcot
If nothing else, I got to try Japanese curry at Epcot, which has easily become one of my favorite things to eat, so I consider my visit to Disney World worth it, for that aspect.
I basically go on those kinds of vacations to ride rollercoasters. Everyone else may have things that they want to do, and I may join them. But I'm there for rollercoasters.
I was never the roller coaster type (not even so much the height as more the possibility for accidents) but Space Mountain is godlike and Rock n' Roller Coaster wasn't bad. The risk of whiplash on Space Mountain is what sells the whole thing, and since there aren't any loops/corkscrews by nature it just felt smooth. I'd go back to Didney just to ride it again, though I'm weird, so the other stuff was fun for me too (the updated version of Star Tours was pretty rad, as is Soarin' and the resort I stayed at, Art of Animation).
The shows at Disney World are pretty rad too (especially the car stunt show at Hollywood Studios). If I were to go back to Orlando I'd probably split my time between there and Islands of Adventure since the latter has Harry Potter and I didn't get to go when my sister and dad did. (Zedd was at Disney World that week, and it was more likely that I'd get to go to the Wizarding World another time than it was to go to his concert at the House of Blues.)
For the most part, it's just a matter of tying your shoes real tight and wearing pants with small pocket holes. But it's probably different with glasses. Can't leave those with a parent at the gate.
Space Mountain is the only rollercoaster that frightens me. It's incongruous for Disney to have the most dangerous roller coaster within 200 miles of the park.

Two things.
1. I'd imagine it's only scary because of how it's darkened, but you never know.
2. Maybe it's their compensation for the rest of the thrill rides' relative unremarkableness.

It seems interesting to me that the majority of dragon-centric fantasy and sci fi novels are written by women. It's one of the few sub-genres (if you consider "dragons" a sub-genre) where women seem to be a the top. Even odder given that fantasy and sci fi are notoriously male dominated outside of fantasy-romance.
I mean, think of all the lady dragon authors! Jane Yolen, Robin Hobb, Naomi Novik, Mercedes Lackey, Tracy Weiss, Margaret Hickman, Elizabeth Kerner, Anne McCaffrey. Sure, there are still a lot of male authors I could list, too, but they're not nearly so well-known as the women writers.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
My favorite thing by Mercedes Lackey was her adaptation of Firebird. I really liked it.
Unfortunately my fantasy literature has by circumstance been very male-dominated. Tolkien, Butcher, Pratchett, Sanderson, Rothfuss. I'm not entirely sure why. But maybe my decision to stop reading any books that had the typical fantasy mainstays - used as they were usually used - contributed to that.

they lived next to Disney World, pretty much, and had been there so many times it was like going for a walk or something

I didn't go on any rides, of course.

There was a chance to taste the slime, and I missed it because allergies or something. It apparently tastes like apples.
We went there once when I was living with him briefly and he got mad that I wouldn't go on any of the rides.
That, come to think of it, was the last time I saw him in person for any real length of time, I went back to PA the day after that.

in any case I am afraid of heights so there is no way I am about to go on a rollercoaster

Luckily, we outwitted them and arrived safely at shore.
