i am the third a master a sentinel of awakeness i hold truth like a torch shadows flicker before me rapid eye follow the chain of thought until the silence ends
I could also tell you what the oscillator, LFO, play mode and chorus/flange settings mean if you're not already aware...
I don't know what those first two do. I know that the mono/poly/legato setting determines how many sounds it can make at once, though I'm unclear as to what "legato" is.
Chorus/Flange is just a built in filter of the same, right?
the synth offers 3 kinds of filters. the two LP ones cut out the high frequencies, the HP one cuts out low frequencies, and the BP ones cuts out all the frequencies above and below a certain band.
first you might wanna monkey with the resonance, see what that does

the resonance one is the one I said sounds like the weird noises in "Telstar" by The Tornadoes when you turn it all the way up.
at some point when I'm in a better mood I'll learn a new DAW
Audiotool's great for what I need right now, but I don't think I can do everything with it like I could FL. The main reason I stick with it is probably something about either the interface, the way it's accessible from multiple computers or a combination thereof.
Anywho, a brief primer on what the oscillator symbols are: There are four basic electrical waveforms that translate into sound and when they mix they make different timbres, these being the sine wave (a pure tone), the sawtooth wave (all harmonics), the square wave (only odd harmonics), and the triangle wave (only odd harmonics but quite different in sound). Basically, the little symbols that you click next to combine them in different ways.
"Ring" refers to ring modulation and "FM" to FM synthesis, which do weird things to the harmonics. Try bopping around with those a bit.

neato.
I am actually done with the track I was working on, but perhaps I'll keep experimenting with syn-1 later.
You'll probably have a lot of fun with LFO, too. Short answer to what it does: You know the WUB WUB WUB in brostep? That's what happens when you crank a low-frequency oscillator waaaay up on a synth-bass.
^^ It has a tonne of other uses. Basically, it modulates the sound of a particular parameter at a rate determined by a very low frequency - the wave literally moves the other sound at the rate of its vibration, at least when applied directly to the oscillator.
^ Yeah, but I'm talking strictly about the tremolo.
Pure FM synthesis involves taking a frequency and multiplying the value of that frequency by additions, subtractions and multiplications of a given value to create a timbre. This can then be used to warp an existing timbre by degrees, like how distortion squares off a sound wave, or so I understand.
I wish there was a way to synthesize my influences without it sounding godawful or just plain disrespectful.
If it's done in good faith and with a reasonable degree of tact then it's not disrespectful; and if you can cull reasonable material from that, then you're good. Also, I think you already do a pretty good job of it, although sometimes you need to let your work steep longer.
even like 2 years later all of the comments on that video are by Eagles fans (the band not the football team) mad that the song samples "Hotel California".

and now we're in
"Telstar" territory? idk
don't turn that knob all the way up.

but I can just clone the plugin to mess around with the other stuff.

or something that costs a good deal of money

I've always wondered
140 bpm
kick on 1 snare on 3, maybe some other percussion if you're a scrub
wubs
learn 2 program a build
there you can now dubstep

I'm considering doing that.
math is involved
anyway. I think the kinds of music I like are too disparate for me to ever bring them all together.
Maybe some.

it's been a "depressing song sung by a guy" kind of day for the past several days.
this is still one of my favorite Frank Ocean songs.
oi.
1. Drink caffeinated beverage because I need the energy or the calming/focusing effect
2. Gradually consume more and more
3. Realize I've developed a tolerance and I'm drinking all this coffee for nothing
4. Cut back drastically until the tolerance is gone
5. Find myself needing the energy and/or calming effect of caffeine
...I'm probably doing a number on my body, but it's not like I do this on purpose :v
Slip through the darkside and cross that line.
