i think the current british governments attitudes to immigration are driven a lot by people in mid sized provincial towns, previously not very affected by immigration, who are currently seeing an influx of particularly eastern european immigrants. a lot of these places are coastal, southeast,, midlands, scotland isnt particularly driving these attitudes and hence the countrys policy atm.
as ever it is a case of people just fuckin getting used to it, in london where we have had immigration for decades nobody really gives a damn, hence why the notably anti-immigration parties do so badly here (also because there are a lot of immigrants here too)
