I talked it over with my mom and she agreed that seeing a doctor is a good idea, which is great! But what if I don't have ADD or dyslexia or whatever, and the only conclusion to draw is that I'm lazy, or at any rate my issues with focusing have to do with deep seated psychological issues and aren't something Adderall can help with?

If the universe were inelegant and ugly would science's status be revoked? Is science's poetry status dependent on the elegancy and beauty of the world it has developed in?
i guess one could say that science as an institution harnesses the human ego to uncover generally acceptable rules about the world around us within the context of a materialistic worldview, with science as an abstract idea being the intellectual framework by which the institution produces said ideas
like i'm pretty sure most scientists are scientists because they just think science is cool, and they want to prove their ideas right, but what non-scientists are interested in is an end product that improves the overall human condition, whether that improvement is physical or intellectual.
and to benefit from the fruits of the scientific institution one does not need to understand science in any meaningful way, i do not need to understand immunology or microbiology to take an antibiotic, and so on
which makes science rather unique in terms of intellectual pursuits
