I don't remember that strip. Then again, haven't not reread Questionable Content in a long time.
Me neither, but Yarrun posted that one here a while back and it's stuck with me.
QC is way better binged than followed.
Definitely. Rather indifferent to it as a whole lately, though there have been some good moments.
I think it kind of peaked between strip 666 and somewhere around 1500 or so.
Yeah, I can agree with that. Not quite digging the new art style either.
It has its good points, but it has gotten rather inconsistent. And the writing quality's dropped a bit. I saw the last twist coming from, like, a mile away.
My theory is that Death is just a good, loyal friend to Dracula, the only one to keep coming back after the Belmonts beat Dracula every time; and also the hardest boss in each game.
I wouldn't say friend. More like your boss from your part-time job that you occasionally invite on fishing trips in an attempt to get a raise, but the boss thinks you're overdoing it big-time.
I genuinely think Braid is a really unremarkable game and I have no idea why it's so beloved. Also Johnathan Blow is one of those indie developers. The kind who don't take no shit from nobody because they are an ARTIST with a VISION. The VISION in this case being a 2D version of Blinx The Timesweeper.

in other news, this could've gone worse.
I realized I can't really vocalize what I like about Braid, but I know I do.
Isn't "competent platformer with time travel as a game mechanic" enough? Plot on top of that is nice, of course, but is it truly necessary?
Yeah but there are other competent platformers with underused game mechanics that are (in my opinion) better but less well regarded.
The worst thing I can say about Braid is that it led to a thousand terrible flash games.
So did Meat Boy I guess.
Like I don't think Braid is bad I just don't think it's all that interesting?
And people talk about the plot like it has some kind of leagues-deep hidden meaning when it's pretty obviously a metaphor for the development of the atomic bomb, which, sure, that's unique in gaming, I guess, I just don't think it makes the game any better really.
Also people tend to praise the art which I personally find rather dull, I'm not one for that "painting in motion" look.

I'm not saying it's a bad game; I'd have to play it (or watch a good deal of gameplay) before deciding that. I'm just saying that, back when it was released, it felt like everyone thought it was mindblowing and I'm still sitting here with my mind fairly unblown.
I'd been seeing time-travel-based platformers on Kongregate for years before Braid came out. Braid may have done it better, and with better graphics, but it's just a natural progression of the genre. It's not like Portal, which practically kicked off its own genre of platformers.
But I guess, in general, I'm not really into time-travel as a mechanic. Or a plot device, in many cases. So it might just be me.
The movie had beautiful cinematography and good actors, but the plot was cobbled together from the Terminator, the Gospels and various gangster movies.

The Japanese dub is surprisingly good
