I have never really liked these. Franklin County adopted them as the standard style of city/township boundary sign around 2000 or so, starting with the replacement of many signs to update the name of the county engineer.
Around the same time, the City of Worthington started using Times New Roman Bold on all of their street name signs. Aside from looking tacky, it makes them hard to read at any decent speed--it would be ok for residential streets, but they use them for everything.
Although even though I was Kanayaing long before she was, and in fact my Kanayaing is why she got into the series, I still sometimes have that same reaction to my own posts.
